The industry has no place for second placed runners. Chartered must re-invent itself and quickly, too. Altho hi-risk, it must go into projects with major customers for low energy consuming yet hi-performing products such as 3G mobile phones. Market Cap is way too low for a world-class company outfitted with 5 fabs that has not yet even warmed up to its full potential. |

Big plants...yet only worth tens of cents...if not for the strong T support...its about time for them to pack up...maybe should just follow the actions taken against GM...this will give them a wake up call to really think how to make the company profitable again. |

Totally agreed with you singaporegal. Chartered has been getting so much help from Government. No choice. Due to the fact that Big "T" has so many % ownership in it. Oh well, could see another multi bagger coming in the near future.

I would like to see this company stand on its own two feet without government support schemes.

Chartered sees 2009 payroll savings of US$10m from Jobs Credit Scheme
By ANGELA TAN March 30, 2009, 5.58 pm (Singapore time) Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing said in its freshly released 2008 annual report that it expects an annual savings of US$10 million in payroll from the Singapore government's Jobs Credit Scheme. On January 22, 2009, to encourage employers to preserve jobs and help Singaporeans stay employed, the Singapore government introduced the Jobs Credit Scheme in the 2009 Budget. Employers will receive cash grants up to 12 per cent on the first Singapore $2,500 of the monthly wages of each employee on the Central Provident Fund payroll at the beginning of each period. This Scheme is for 2009 and employers will receive payments on a quarterly basis in March, June, September and December. Chartered sees 2009 capex around US$375m By ANGELA TAN March 30, 2009, 5.50 pm (Singapore time) Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing expects its capital expenditures for 2009 to be around US$375 million, compared to US$576 million in 2008, according to the chip-marker's 2008 annual report released on Monday. Chartered said it expects to fund this through a combination of existing cash balance, cash flow from operations and use of credit facilities. 'Such expenditures will be primarily for increasing the capacity of our 65nm and below technologies,' the company said. With the planned capital expenditure, Fab 7 is expected to have equipment (installed or available for installation) that is equivalent to a capacity of 27,000 twelve-inch wafers per month by December 2009. |

Lost a fair bit on this counter. Looking at the current situation, not too wise to hold. Maybe after the right when it went further down, we can buy in. CFD players may just wack down looking at it.

Yes, Chartered needs to bring back confidence into their investors rather than exercising their good PR skills. With the backing of T as well, who will ever think they would go wrong. Hope they will perform well before the rights closure tomorrow 31st March 09. That will boost some confidence back into investors. Good Luck To All Who Have Invested in Rights or Mother Shares |

Constantly hear that is will be a winner.. But when come to financial reporting tell another story... Maybe the Taiwanese always under cut the price to get contracts.. Maybe should benchmark it with the Taiwanese, Chinese and US chipmaker to guage chartered performance... See whether they are up to the mark... Hi-tech companies must also make profit, cannot bleed and bleed and expect investor to pump more capital.. Got to show investor where is the money

I think you're entitled to the rights according to what it's said in this release: "Ordinary shareholders will be entitled to the rights if they are shareholders as of 5.00pm on March 18, 2009 in Singapore,........." You're already the shareholder on March 16 when you bought it no matter when you settled it. This's my opinion, please check with your broker.

well, small shareholders, no matter how many of them , have no choice lah, dont believe? can just go attend EGM and vote against the consolidation, then see result yourself...it is a good experience to attend AGM or EGM to get to know how things run... the reason for the company to consolidate their shares were explained in their document, see post below... |

I find this counter got alot of investor believing in its future.. or it is a false hope... Looking at the earning track record... seem to tell another story after so many years of bad results.. Cannot seem to beat investor expectation... But i find the PR of Chartered has done a very good job.. Constantly in the investor limelight... Maybe should bring in some taiwanese management in chartered.. They seem to be able generate profit much better, instead of the fame and limelight... My view only... |

For Chartered rights, even if you apply for lots of excess, you'ld probably won't get it, only just to round-up yours. For Capitaland, it's really generous to small investors as for 500 rights, you can get 1500 more.
