Don't know much about wage cut justified now or not

Some friend in pte sector say job and wage still ok - no change

Ask them to resign and join civil service - they say no way , as pay is still very good even if cut , also job not so boring

Cmon, be fair to the civil servants. For all these yrs since Spore independence, their pays were not fantastic. Only lately, with the new scheme then their pays are more competitive. Civil servant pays are more of average kind. Good times, so so. Bad times also so so. However, it is always a punching bag during bad times. In good times, when they are not getting a lot, nobody emphatises.

History has proven that a weak civil service is no good to the country. So pay them well....

well... a fair statement as follow:

 

1) wanna cut should cut more v. senior ranking civil servants not those rank and files whom are like you and me...struggling and punting stocks for extra income !

 

2)and wanna cut...cut really DEEP...35% not anything lower than that...else no MAXI IMPACT !

 

3) many new civil servants are with 2-4 yrs contract now....wanna retrenched ..should start with those BLOOD sucking parasites that is still with those stats boards who are have been working 25-30years ...oops if u retrench them more costly rite with retrenchment benefits ?

there should not be double standard for civil service therefore if they want to match private sector pay and so do they have to match private sector retrenchment .... private sector employee are competing with low cost foreigners (why not consider to import low cost foreigners to run the goverment too)

 Alert Admin 		all these cut are nothing...not forgetting that they still ve an undisclose perforamnce bonus somehere in apr where some can get as high as 3 mths!

What pay cut? They simply deferred the salary adjustments of senior civil servants which they claim was suppose to be adjusted in January 2009 and no variable bonus.Amazing!!!

 Alert Admin 		Civil servant that got 1m salary in recession is worth more than good times. Cus in recesson 1m can buy alot of good stock and property at very cheap price

The Civil Service will cut pay, the Public Service Division announced earlier today.

In view of the economic slowdown, the salaries of ministers and senior officials will be cut by 11-19 per cent next year. This is because components of their salary are linked to Singapore's economic growth.

The drop will bring their salaries below the levels in April 2007.

 

Specifically, in 2009, there will be a 19% fall in the annual salary of the President (to $3.14 million) and the Prime
Minister (to $3.04 million).

 

The Ministerial Grade (MR4) salary will fall by 18% to $1.57 million, and salaries at the entry Superscale grade (SR9) will fall by 12% to $353,000.

In addition, the allowance for Members of Parliament will fall by 16% to $190,000.


The year-end Annual Variable Component (AVC) will be reduced to 0.5 month, from one month last year. There will be no special Growth Bonus this year, unlike in 2007 when a special Growth Bonus of 0.5 month was paid.

Civil servants will still receive the 13th month payment, or Annual Wage Supplement of 1 month.

As such, the total AVC and 13th month payment for civil servants in 2008 is 2 months plus $100 to $3001. This is one month less than the total paid out in 2007 - three months plus $220 (including Growth Bonus).

Mr Teo Chee Hean, Minister for Defence and Minister in charge of the Civil Service said: "Public sector salaries follow the market up and down. The mechanism we introduced last year to link a significant proportion of the
salary of senior civil servants to the performance of the economy is working as intended. This mechanism allows salaries to respond more rapidly to market conditions."

The Prime Minister has donated and will continue to donate all increases in his own salary over the level before the April 2007 revisions to good causes for five years.

??? so which is real, increase or decrease in salary?  (no wonder the pay hike at the start of this year.....from 1.2mil to 1.9mil. so now if it's 1.57mil, they're still increased by 25% from previous time....

 Alert Admin 		they should bloody hell donate 30% of their pay to help the thousands of needy families pay for food, electricity & school of their kids. The sacrifice of a few ministers will go a long way for these families in the coming terrible times.

Wonder the cabinet also have retrenchment policy?Some Ministers may need to be retrenched too.Like to see that.

 Alert Admin 		What happen when bank or big huge investment instituties fail?. Owner is retired, board resign and new blood take over. This will help those three or fourth generation heavy weight to revitalize the instituties again...do those on board now really understand..or just wanted to hang on till is oredi late. well is not too late to exit in a grace manner. My U and most of us, believe we R not anti establishment nor totally against for oppositing...
