Midas Holdings rose after company announces its JV Nanjing SR Puzhen Rail Transport (NPRT) expanded downstream into train car maintenance. Midas holds 32.5% stake in NPRT, one of China's leading train car manufacturers; says, move into repair work "brings it one step closer to becoming an integrated player in the rail transport value chain." DBS Vickers analyst Paul Yong has Buy rating, $1.45 target price; says, move is "basically positive but not very material," as Midas'' share of initial investment only $4 million. Adds, move is company's first step into train car repair market, but new business stream will not contribute for while as it will take time to scale up. |

Midas has secured three contracts worth an aggregate sum of RMB252.7 million, to supply aluminium alloy extrusion profiles for 680 train cars for metro lines in Shanghai and Guangzhou. All three contracts are to be fulfilled over 2008 and 2009, thus having a positive impact on the Group’s financials over the two years. |

DBS Vickers - Nanjing Puzhen Plant Visit: Gathering Speed Buy S$1.42; Price Target : 12-Month S$ 1.84 Story: We paid a visit last week to Nanjing SR Puzhens new production plant. Point: The new production plant, with an initial capacity of 250 metro cars per annum, is on track for completion by December and commercial production should begin in 1Q08. With this enhanced production capacity, we believe that Nanjing SR Puzhen can go to bid for more contracts to add on to its current order book of RMB3.5bn to help underpin Midas earnings growth (at the associate level) over the next three to five years. Relevance: We continue to favour Midas as a firm beneficiary of Chinas booming railway sector and its robust demand for metro & high-speed trains and parts.
