DR FU YONG is a Chinese fund manager often referred to as the 'S-chip sage' for his history of favouring Singapore-listed Chinese firms.

When he won the 2007 Fund Manager of the Year award in his category, he had a high water mark of seven S-chips among his fund's top 10 holdings in the second half of that year.

Dr Fu has now taken on a new position with a Shanghai-based 8.6 bln yuan fund of
Changxin Asset Management following his stepping down from Beijing-based Orient Fund in February.

While recent analysis and media reports are not deluding themselves into believing that Dr. Fu will immediately jump full bore back into S-chips as a fund manager with Changxin, the fact that the 'S-chip sage' is back in the game at this point in time does present a ray of hope for Chinese firms selling shares in Singapore.

During his tenure with Orient,
Dr. Fu became known for chasing high-risk, high-return opportunities, and having a very high rate of bagging his quarry.

Mixed funds under his control saw a nearly 169% average return during an 18-month period three years ago, making him the second most profitable fund manager in this category over the timeframe.

Dr Fu and Orient acquired a reputation at the time for being a cheerleader for Chinese firms listed on the Singapore stock exchange

Two years’ jail for man who

rocked baby daughter to death

Shaffiq Alkhatib

shaffiq@mediacorp.com.sg

Singapore

The 30-year-old man committed the act in his rented flat near Havelock Road some time after 9pm on June 10 last year.

The court heard that he rocked her “forcefully” as he was “frustrated” that the infant was crying and would not go to sleep.

The man’s 23-year-old wife came home from work at around 7am the next morning and noticed that her baby was “behaving strangely” when she tried to feed her with a bottle of milk.

The baby was brought to KK Hospital soon afterwards and she was pronounced dead at around 8am on June 17.

A medical report revealed that the infant suffered injuries including haemorrhage in the brain and eyes.

It stated that these injuries were most likely caused by a condition known as the “shaken baby syndrome”.

In mitigation, the man’s lawyer, Mr S Balamurugan, told the court that his client “did not set out to hurt” the infant and that he “only wanted” her to fall asleep.

Mr Balamurugan added that the man has “always been” a loving father towards his children. The man had also rocked his older child — a daughter who is now two years old — in a similar manner on previous occasions “without any adverse consequences”.

Speaking to reporters after the hearing, the man’s wife said that she hopes he will “turn over a new leaf” when he is released from prison.

When queried if she has forgiven her husband, she said that it was a “very difficult question” to answer and that she has to “move on with her life”.

She also asked reporters not to reveal her name as well as those of her family members.

For committing the crime, the man could have been sentenced to up to five years’ jail, fined, or both.— An unemployed man has been sentenced to two years’ jail for causing the death of his two-month-old daughter by forcefully rocking her for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Golfer’s death a ‘misadventure’

Singapore

Mr Soh Lye Huat, 57, an owner of a garment company, succumbed to multi-organ failure and died 10 days later.

The coroner’s inquiry into Mr Soh’s death had centred around the use of a lifesaving device known as a defibrillator which uses an electric current to jolt the heart.

The Investigation Officer handling the case, Senior Staff Sergeant Andrew Ng Yong Kiang, told the court that the country club’s employees did not use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) when they attended to Mr Soh.

That is because according to the country club’s golf operation first aid action plan, the portable device is used only when a casualty is not breathing or when no pulse is detected.

The court heard that the country club employees only performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Mr Soh as they detected a “weak pulse” from his neck and right wrist.

Senior Staff Sergeant Ng also quoted an opinion from Professor V Anantharaman, the chairman of the Singapore Heart Foundation’s Heart Safe Committee.

The professor said that the use of an AED “is not warranted for immediate treatment” if the casualty has a pulse or is breathing. However, application of the device “may still be useful” to detect a heart rhythm complication known as ventricular fibrillation which can occur when there is an “electrical injury” to the organ.

The prompt use of an AED can “convert the heart’s electrical rhythm to normal”, said Professor Anantharaman.

Mr Soh is survived by his wife, 51-yearold Tan Lee Hwa and their two children.

Lawyer Wendell Wong, who represented the Sohs, told reporters after the hearing that the family will “consider options available” to them and this could mean a civil suit against the country club.— State Coroner Kessler Soh has recorded a verdict of misadventure in a case involving a golfer who died after he was struck by lightning at Tanah Merah Country Club on Oct 25 2009 last year.

PULPING APP

APP's critics are many, and their ammunition varied. Since the company won massive logging concessions in Indonesia under Suharto's rule in the 1980s, the company has profited from a corporate ethic founded on corruption and environmental exploitation. In Indonesia's Riau province, where APP has fed paper mills for some two decades, forests have been devastated, while the local population has remained one of the poorest in the country.

A holding company of the Widjaja family's Sinar Mas Group, headquartered in Singapore, APP's stated interest is establishing "sustainable" eucalyptus and acacia plantations to feed its many mills in Indonesia, China and India.

But its practices in those countries and, now, Cambodia appear to have brought the company to a nadir in its long and thorny relationship with environmental watchdogs. Following a major fall-out with the company last year, the World Wildlife Fund in February accused APP of clearcutting Indonesian forests and called on U.S. companies to boycott its products, which include copier paper, notebooks and other paper products. Large retailers such as Office Depot and Staples promptly came on board.

Not even have any ads on paper, anyone knew what is the IPO price ? Just want to list then list, suka suka, nowadays, don't know what the MAS doing, everything suka suka one ! Last time IPO must open for application, then later become very less volume open to public to apply, majority all reserved by placement taken. Now lagi fantastic, want to list just list lor, no need to open for public to apply. Watch out and be careful.

BTW, anyone know the ipo price, or not even at all, when you check, Company-all-in-one info in SGX website for this burger, no info at all ! For all history records of long grand father history, we can excuse, may be donkey years ago, thus do not reflect the info, but newly IPO also don't have, real lousy !
