No-man's land attests to Japan's nuclear nightmare

Under a detailed roadmap, plant operator. Tokyo Electric Power Co will remove the melted nuclear fuel, most of which is believed to have fallen to the bottom of the core or even down to the bottom of the larger, beaker-shaped containment vessel, a process that is expected to begin in 10 years.

Recent studies also suggest Japan continues to significantly underestimate the scale of the disaster ? which could have health and safety implications far into the future.......

All told, decommissioning the plant will likely take 40 years.

Scientific research revealed that Xanthopes in mangoesteen stops the development of cancer cells in critical parts of the body such as liver, colon and lungs. The body is usually saved from heart diseases because the fruit reduces the intestine's absorption of bad cholesterols.

Don't forget that

1. some fish can swim very long distance.

2. Fishes, like human beings, accumulate certain minerals in high concentration in certain organs. e.g. in human beings, we have high concentration of thyroxine in our thyroid gland. Thyroxine contains iodine which has radioactive isotopes!
[Image: 200px-%28S%29-Thyroxine_Structural_Formulae.png]

Hence, food with low concentration of radioactive iodine can give rise to high concentration in our thyroid gland!

Thyroid cancer risk for 2,000 Fukushima workers: TEPCO

Around 2,000 people who have worked at Japan's wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant face a heightened risk of thyroid cancer.

Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) said 1,973 people, around 10% of those employed in emergency involved in the clean-up since the meltdowns -- were believed been exposed to radiation to cause potential problems.

Figure is a 10-fold increase on TEPCO's previous estimate of the number of possible thyroid cancer victims, after the utility was told its figures were too conservative.

Radioactivity Contaminates Tokyo Vegetable, Water in Six Prefectures

TOKYO -  March 24, 2011 Radiation above the legal limit has been detected in a vegetable grown in Tokyo, Japan's health ministry said. This is the first time that elevated levels of radioactive cesium have been found in a Tokyo vegetable since the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant began spewing radioactivity into Japan's air, water and soil.

The nuclear plant operated by Tokyo Electric Power was damaged during the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami on March 11. Loss of power to the plant and failure of emergency backup generators caused loss of cooling water to the nuclear fuel in four of the plant's six reactors. Several explosions of radioactive hydrogen gas and two fires in spent fuel pools released radiation over a wide area.

The health ministry says radioactive cesium was detected in a leafy vegetable called komatsuna, or mustard spinach, sampled from a research field in Edogawa ward on Wednesday. The contaminated vegetable is not for sale in markets.

The health ministry says that level of radioactivity would not have an adverse effect on health, even if the vegetable was eaten.

Tokyo Metropolitan Got has lifted its advice against giving tap water to infants in Tokyo's 23 wards and 5 adjacent cities.

Governments of Fukushima, Ibaraki, Chiba, Saitama and Tochigi prefectures have detected more than 100 becquerels of iodine per liter of water, above the safety level for infants under 12 months.

The water is considered to be safe for adults to drink.

Warning...Read the full report in The New Paper on Friday (Sept 6)..

A smash-and-grab incident in Johor Baru has not only left a Singaporean couple in shock, but also in fear that they might no longer be safe in their own home.

Ms Fie, 41, a property agent, and her husband, who wanted to be known only as Mr Muka, 42, were in their car in Johor Baru when two men on a motorcycle smashed the front passenger side window and snatched a handbag containing Ms Fie?s identity card and the keys to their Bukit Batok flat.

The couple are now traumatised and fear the thieves could come to their home in Singapore. They have since sent their children to live with relatives.

Two M'sians speaking to The New Paper advise Singaporeans to keep a look-out for motorcyclists, as many crimes in M'sia are committed by crooks on motorbikes.

FUKUSHIMA: Pacific Ocean Will Not Dilute Dumped Radioactive WaterOperator of stricken Fukushima nuclear plant has been dumping thousand tons per day of radioactive water into Pacific ocean.

The reactors are ?riddled with meltdown holes?, building 4 ? with more radiation than all nuclear bombs ever dropped or tested ? is missing entire walls, and building 3 is a pile of rubble.

Whole complex is leaking like a sieve, and the rivers of water pumped in, the reactors everyday just pouring into the ocean (Faithfully everyday).

Most people assume, ocean will dilute the radiation from Fukushima enough that any radiation reaching the West Coast of the U.S. will be low.

Just as we noted 2 days after the earthquake hit that the jet stream might carry radiation to the U.S. by wind ? we are now warning that ocean currents might carry more radiation to the at least some portions of the West Coast of North America than is assumed.

Here is what the North Pacific Gyre looks like:

SINGAPORE, Sept 5 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Falling Asian currencies have triggered a sell-off in bonds and equities. Some investors now fear a repeat of a 1997-style crisis. Yet while a new Breakingviews' interactive risk map shows no economy in the Asia-Pacific region is entirely sober, it is India that has become most addicted to cheap money.

Graphic: Who in Asia has most to fear from the Fed? http://link.reuters.com/xen62v

The risk map ranks the region's economies according to eight vulnerabilities by measuring the deterioration since just before the onset of the global financial crisis. The most pressing concern for investors is the region's worsening trade balance.

India and Indonesia, whose current accounts are in deficit, have predictably suffered big drops in their currencies. But the analysis reveals that trade surpluses of Thailand, Hong Kong and Malaysia have narrowed even more since the second half of 2007.
However, this is partly because Thailand and Malaysia have boosted domestic investment, which lifts imports. A shrinking trade surplus won't cause a crisis if countries can still sell debt and equity to foreigners. This is where India's diminishing net wealth makes it uniquely handicapped.
India was a debtor nation even in 2007, and since then, foreigners have acquired another 8 percentage points of GDP in net claims on Indian assets. Understandably, they aren't keen on more. By contrast, all other Asia-Pacific nations have increased net wealth since 2007.

For Singapore and China, where GDP growth has weakened even more than it has in India, a bigger headache is the outsized expansion in private sector credit. Additionally, China's real exchange rate has shot up the most in Asia, making exports less competitive - though that is part of an intended shift toward domestic consumption. Malaysian and Indonesian companies are grappling with a margin squeeze: The two commodity-producing economies have witnessed the biggest rise in their real cost of capital. The Philippines has the opposite problem: Falling inflation-adjusted returns for savers. This should worry Manila, which is basking in the warm glow of 7.5 percent growth. India has repressed savers for years in the hope that an interest-rate subsidy for borrowers would help keep growth rates high. The misadventure saw the banking system run out of resources.

Rising public debt is mainly a problem for Japan and Australia. Rightly or wrongly, though, the sovereign debt issued by developed countries is perceived as safe. Malaysia is not in the same league, and it is pruning petrol and diesel subsidies to control its growing public debt problem.
Unlike in 1997, most Asian countries have relatively straightforward choices. Malaysia can introduce a goods and services tax to control the 14 percentage point increase in its sovereign-debt-to-GDP ratio since 2007. Indonesia can raise interest rates to tame 9 percent inflation. The main problem is India, with its cocktail of slumping growth, high inflation, a creaking banking system, reckless fiscal policies and political uncertainty. Other Asian nations can't take rising U.S. interest  rates lightly, but they are far from a crisis.
