Hard to predict stock price movement! Get the name but loss in cash, so ofsetting each other is still considered break even.......No problem.

nickyng      ( Date: 05-Mar-2010 15:02) Posted:

SINGAPORE: The Government of Singapore Investment Corp (GIC) said Friday that it has converted its UBS notes into ordinary shares, suffering a paper loss of about US$5 billion.

GIC had invested 11 billion Swiss francs (about US$10.22 billion) in mandatory convertible notes in UBS to support the Swiss bank during the financial crisis.

GIC did not provide more details.

Last month, a filing that GIC made to the US Securities and Exchange Commission showed the original conversion price would be 47.7 Swiss francs, two-thirds more than UBS's last share price of 15.86 francs.

GIC had earned about two billion francs from a nine per cent coupon over the last two years, which partially compensated for the sharp erosion in UBS' share price.

The filing had said GIC would exchange the mandatory convertible notes for 230.7 million ordinary UBS shares on March 5.

GIC would have a stake of 6.6 per cent in UBS after conversion, making it the Swiss bank's biggest shareholder.

If only Japan government would like to take drastic and abrupt change of fiscal currency valuation adjustment measure such as 10 YEN (old notes) change to 1 Yen (new notes)... means all the currency value revaluate 10:1. I personally think all the previous economic problem will be solved in no time!

wah! Japan govt got lots of RE$ERVE hor !?!? can still keep pumping trillions to boost it's economy?? wow.... :D

Bank of Japan to mull further credit easing

TOKYO: Japan's central bank will likely consider more monetary easing to fight stubborn deflation as the world's second largest economy recovers from a severe recession, a newspaper reported Friday.

The Bank of Japan's policy board is expected to discuss new steps to tackle deflation at a two-day meeting opening on March 16, the Nikkei economic daily said without naming its sources.

With some officials cautious about adopting new measures too soon, however, any decisions are likely to carry over into next month, it said, adding that the bank would focus on ways to guide lower short-term rates for up to a year.

The Bank of Japan has already slashed interest rates to just 0.1 per cent and pumped trillions of yen into the financial system to boost the economy in the face of the worst downturn in decades.

But it has been criticised by Japan's government for not doing enough to ward off the threat of another deflationary spiral as seen after the country's economic bubble burst in the early 1990s.

Japan plunged into a year-long recession in 2008 as its exports collapsed due to a severe global downturn.

It returned to growth in the second quarter of 2009, but the recovery remains fragile with falling consumer prices, high public debt and weak domestic demand all major concerns for policymakers.

Consumer prices fell 1.3 per cent in January year-on-year, the eleventh straight month of decline.

Sometimes I just wonder, why on earth we should trust that figure? It is simply not announced by the neutral third party, while it is announced by US own government authority. Would there be possible having some sort of conflic of interest or personal interest involved in that figure perhaps?

The problem lies that CHINA related counters listed in SGX....  IPO is the only way to them for fund raising and further fund raising will not be available or very very hard for approval in common practise, so most of them just doing further fund raising in secondary market till the price stagnant and hard to find traded volume anymore and plan to delist or dual list to other stock markets (dual listing).

knightrider      ( Date: 03-Mar-2010 15:36) Posted:

So sad, seeing so many China listed firm here, go into suspended situation. Is our stock exchange do their research before approved them, and is there any policy in place to safe guard our minorities' $$. Just like banks, need to be guarrantee. Then who will safe guard our investment, I think we should stay away from China stocks. Even banks also kana play out, after Liehman things.  I think normal people like us,  we should all wake up when invested in all this lousy counter.
