not that it's impossible, but it's highly unlikely for a MP of this and the next generation to be a poly grad.

because almost all--if not all--MPs are scholars of some sort, usually the PSC overseas merit scholarship; and to be such a scholar, you need to be selected from A levels.

So straightaway from 18 they are eliminated already if they choose the poly route.

And yups, as per singaporegal's remark: you need second uppers and above to enter Officer level. Poly grads and lower hons are ranked lower. The hierarchy is so strict that few, if any, can circumvent it. It's very rigid.

Belated, but no baseer; i'm not on the pinnacle of maslow's hierarchy. the trouble is precisely that i am after self actualisation without the basics fulfilled.

repeat three times for added effect. haha.

zzz market. elfie wants to go back to  . and yea, for the person, really, it's either one ticket or nothing. just as long as it can be controlled though; gambling is predominantly emotion-led. that's why most gamblers lose; not to mention games are always skewed for the house.

worth considering to start accumulating from now.

be careful and go in parts tho; you're dealing with two foreign BB on automated systems for this counter.

not for contra. to run on signal of RSI 14.

i can't believe this, i'm actually awake for the morning session.

yuppers, trader88, the chance of winning is not 50/50. Besides, the odds are all-or-nothing: ie, you either win it all, or nothing; there's no 'stop loss' point. doesn't make good financial sense to me. (unless of course, i happen to be holding a winning ticket. )

odds of 4D can be calculated using combinatorial mathematics:

4 places in the numbers, of which any can repeat, since there are 10 numbers, hence: _ _ _ _ => 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 = 10,000.

there are 23 possible winning combinations: 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize, plus 10 each for starter and consolation. This can be repeated.

Hence total chances of winning is 23 out of 10,000.

Toto is even higher odds, since there are six places and 45 numbers. so really, it's a pure luck thing.

And yay! someone likes my emoticons!

needs to break 11,800 to break confirmative W formation for uptrend. the good thing is that the recent down was on relatively lower vol.

eh, sorry, meant generally in FA terms. ie, close to NAV, book-to-price is 2 or less.

those tend to be low betas tho, so won't really move with the market (ie, not for fast scalps). meant for holding at least a year.

keep an eye on gold. it's starting to get attractive.

caveat applies.

update:

ML took first part of the short, UBS on the second part.

don't know who's buying tho, or if that's them shortcovering.

astute observation, cwquah.  how long have you been playing/observing the market?

the biggest one is definitely local. i think one (or two--doesn't really matter) foreigner, and one more smaller local BB. the rest are cham-cham-chuee-chuee.

overall today's market is down not because of genuine distribution, but because of shorting. A lot of foreigner action, hence overall vol higher than expected. MS, ML, Citi, UBS. across the board. Won't name the local players.

There's at least 3 fund houses involved. One local.

yup agreed, Farmer. One of the reasons why I don't approve of shorting is that it becomes a quick tool for gambling: when if you think about it, isn't investing about growing?

Wonder if we can petition SGX. hehe.

less amazing to me than cosco tho. predominantly because this was set up by a foreigner on automated system, since jul 31 already. if not before (the previous week's ramp to 630), and today's selldown was just exacerbated by locals getting in.

cosco, however. fwoah.

almost makes me wish i could short.

you're not wrong, trader88.  except that they appear to be having help on yzj. and with this, the little elf had better go into hiding.

des_khor, cosco was a growth stock (note: was).. its day peaked when it dipped below $7.

since then, it needs to recalibrate, to what kind of stock it is.

which is also why it's a prime target for shorting: high PE ratio, high book to price. Even with the growth it reports, it's still overvalued.

and ahha, i see one of the houses have revealed themselves by that analyst report.

smalltimers, please, just stay out of htis counter. lots of other valuable counters if you want longterm.

one of the Houses here shorting it lah. Very impressive. They just touched 268.

That's why i'd never believe in fundamentals alone for the market.

if you must buy, don't buy above 275. pref, wait one more day. let it naturally bottom out first. but a fast scalp only. not for buy and hold.

alt: they'll seal it dead at abt 1225-1230, so no one dares to buy. then afternoon rebound. + some downs.
