Just how much is US$416 million?

It is ~15 pieces of Picasso?s painting of his young children, Claude and Paloma.  The painting  was bought by China?s richest man, Wang Jianlin, for $28.2 million at Christie?s in New York yesterday.

Keep it up, Wilmar.

Wilmar: 3Q13 Net Profit Up 2.5% To US$416 Million.

Wilmar International Limited posted a 3% increase in net profit to US$416.0 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2013. Excluding non-operating items, net profit was US$390.9 million in 3Q2013 (3Q2012: US$388.0 million). Most key segments recorded volume growth and higher profits during the period. However, Plantations & Palm Oil Mills continued to be affected by lower production yield and average selling price for crude palm oil. Associates also turned in a weaker performance in 3Q2013. The Group registered strong volume growth, especially in Consumer Products and Sugar. However, revenue was down 4% to US$11.84 billion for the quarter due to significantly lower palm prices...

In 3Q2012, Midas made a loss.  Thus, if Midas maintains her 2Q2013 performances,  we may see  relatively better performances in 3Q2013 & 9M2013. Keep our fingers crossed.

And Midas' future is bright & half-year dividend is coming.

I think this quarter result wont be good.

If you want to invest in Midas, need to hold for mid to long term like Cosco and Vard.

Is a good counter to buy now and hold. Now at the bottom of the curve like shipping and ship building industry.

Not vested.

Singapore Business Review dated 30 Oct 13.....

Midas poised to clinch RMB2.5b-3.2b high-speed rail orders by end-2015

Here are its 3 competitive edges.

According to CIMB, China?s aggressive railway expansion plans present a tremendous  opportunity for Midas given the company?s 60% market share and strong track record in the industry. CIMB estimates that Midas can win  Rmb2.5bn-3.2bn worth of high-speed rail (HSR) orders by end-2015.

Here's more from CIMB:

We raise our FY14-15 EPS to 17-19%  above consensus the market is likely to follow suit. We believe further HSR contract wins could catalyse the stock.

China?s railway spending

To improve connectivity between provinces and cities across China, the government plans to add 11,200 high-speed train cars (10,400 currently) and extend the high-speed railway to 18,000km by 2015.

To achieve this, it has allocated a Rmb3.3tr budget for railway investments over the current five-year
plan period that ends in 2015.

In 2011-12, Rmb1.21tr was spent on building railway infrastructure, which leaves a budget of Rmb2.09tr for  2013-15.

As the procurement of railway equipment (including train cars) tends to be back-end loaded, there could be an increase in the remaining budget to Rmb2.16tr that the market has yet to factor in. Based on Midas?s 60% market share, we estimate that it could win Rmb2.5bn-3.2bn of HSR orders by end-2015.

Why Midas

Midas has built up several  competitive advantages over the years:  1) close relationships with its key  customers, CNR Changchun, CNR  Tangshan and CSR Bombardier  Sifang, 2) having the dies to produce  a variety of extrusion profiles, and 3)  strong track record of manufacturing  quality products.

As a result, we  believe Midas can maintain its  position as a preferred supplier to its  key customers, which will help it to  retain its leading market share of 60%  and win the bulk of the HSR contracts.

Pollock fishing  Russian Sea Catching (RSC) looks set to acquire two more pollock fishing companies.
October 29, 2013, 4:00 am

On Oct. 24, the Russian Federal Anti-monopoly Service (FAS) approved RSC?s application to acquire two holding companies, Baltstar and  Malix.

These holdings own the Far Eastern pollock fishing companies Pelagial and Imlan, according to the Russian business newspaper Kommersant.

A RSC spokesperson told Undercurrent News that the group has not purchased Baltstar or Malix, insisting no contracts have been signed at this stage.

?We have just received FAS permission to make acquisition of several companies in case we decide to do that,? the spokesperson told Undercurrent.

?These companies are just legal entities, they don?t have any vessels or fishing quotas in their property,? he added. ?RSC is owner of essential fishing quotas for several species, so FAS permission is required for almost any acquisition.?

According to information seen by Undercurrent, Pelagial and Imlan are among companies suspected to be indirectly owned by or linked to Pacific Andes.

Pelagial has a quota of around 13,500 metric tons of quota, and Imlan of around  4,000t.

Pelagial is among 20-odd Russian pollock catchers found guilty of cartel activities by the FAS last December. On Oct. 23, a Moscow arbitration court confirmed the ruling and imposed fines on six of the companies.

For RSC, the deal is its latest acquisition in the Russian Far East, in an expansion that has taken it from owning zero quotas at the start of the year, to being the country?s largest pollock fishing company.

Specifically, RSC now controls around 12% of the Russian pollock quota (180,000t for 2013), having acquired  Turnif, Intraros,  Sovgavanryba and Vostokrybprom.

The company has said it  plans more deals and in the Far East, while also looking at expanding in all major Russian fishing regions in the longer term.

All acquired companies will fall under the ultimate management of Peter Savchuk, the head of RSC?s Far East division.

Founded in 2011, RSC is owned by oil billionaire Gennady Timchenko and Maxim Vorobiev, both also shareholders in Russian Sea Group.

It was created with the specific aim of acquiring fishing companies in the Far East.

Its emergence coincided with accusations from the Russian government and FAS that Russian pollock catchers were engaged in cartel activities and were illegally controlled by foreign companies, mainly from China (Pacific Andes) and South Korea.

RSC is now led by  Andrey Teterkin, who joined as CEO of RSC in the later part 2012 from Sibur, a Russian  fertilizer  company.

With the latest news about these three counters by MAS, SIAS and SGX, it is unlikely that there will be any rebound or rather it will further push these counters down. This not only affect these three counter but the market sentiment is rather bad despite US and Europe stocks market are rising.
