Foreign funds has been liquiditing their fund from singapore market, but, our GIC is injecting into other foreign market  --

1/20/2010
Travelport lines up $1.78bn London IPO
Telegraph reports, "The company, which is 70pc owned by private equity house Blackstone, won the equity injection from Government of Singapore Investment Corp (GIC), which will take 7.19pc of the enlarged group. The GIC deal provisionally values Travelport at $3.13bn.

Jeff Clarke, the travel company's chief executive, believed the float would prove GIC "came in at a discount".

"They came in early, large and long-term," he said. "Usually you get preferential treatment with that."

Mr Clarke said the IPO would see more than 50pc of Travelport's enlarged share capital sold to new investors, with the proceeds used to cut its $4.1bn borrowings to a target net debt of $2.3bn. Some of the cash will pay off $600m of pay-in-kind notes. "This is primarily about deleveraging," he said.

The company's other owners, each with 10pc, are Technology Crossover Ventures, One Equity Partners and the management. None of the owners are selling any shares."

GIC says booked loss from $675mln Stuyvesant investment
Reuters reports, "The Government of Singapore Investment Corp [GIC.UL] said on Monday it has already booked losses on its investment in Stuyvesant Town, given the New York apartment complex's debt problems.

"GIC recognised the losses following the ruling by the New York Court of Appeals in October 2009, which precipitated the default," a spokeswoman for the sovereign wealth fund said in response to a Reuters query.

GIC did not disclose its exposure or say how much it wrote off, although court documents indicate the Singapore fund held $100 million of equity and $575 million in mezzanine debt issued by the owner of the Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village complex in Manhatten. The complex, owned by a joint venture led by Tishman Speyer and BlackRock Inc (BLK.N), on Friday said it missed making a loan repayment, in a move that may trigger a foreclosure."

Singaporeans are very 'guai aka obedient'.   We buy 4-D or sweep or toto becos government said Singapore pools helps a lot of charitable organisations.   Without us buying 4-d and toto, where singapore pools get the money to help the poor?  Singaporeans helping singaporeans, ok lar . hahaha!     But, Casino is not helping charitable organisations, so, MML Dont want you to go Casino lar!

matrixneo      ( Date: 19-Feb-2010 11:50) Posted:

Instead, he the wise one should advise ppl casinos are not always win so must play responsibly with your families in mind....in short, be responsible gamblers....same thing...why not tell ppl not to buy 4d or toto as you know that your chance of winning is 1/10000 or 1/1000000....if everyone thinks that, SGpools betting centres can used to play mahjong liaos...haha

Sad but true, i believe there will be another 1 or 2 more casinos coming up in singapore.  Though, next 10 years, government is not likely to issue licece, but, thereafter , is a perhaps 'Yes'.   Where will the next casino will be built?   Anyone wanna guess?   What about in Pulau Ubin?   hahaha

Foreigners has more to add to their 'make fun list' :

Singapore is a fine country - $500 for littering, $100 for entering Casinos, $500 for spitting yellow phlegm, $100 for spitting white phlegm,

Why those who are sick and never use face mask are never given a fine?

Integrity      ( Date: 19-Feb-2010 11:39) Posted:

I think if government wants to deter citizens from entering the casino, might as well banned all citizens instead of imposing $100 levy.

If singapore government is so anti-gambling, should not let this go into public listing in SGX .  The mind set of people of  buying this stock is more on speculative purpose (but not investment) causing a very large movement in prices daily.  This has become an 'approved' on-line gambling and it fits very well into its nature of business.

The foreign workers usually come with 2 years contract and by all means, we welcome them to leave their 2 years hard-earned salary to the Casino.   If they got trouble with debts ,they are sent back immediately and work permit revoked.  I doubt they want to  create trouble here.

Which Ah Long will be so stupid as to lend them $$$?

loyfam88      ( Date: 17-Feb-2010 11:36) Posted:

I agree with the observations especially for those foreign workers. Maybe the levy should extend to them as well. We do not want a casino filled with foreign workers on off days. In addition, it does bring about social problems if the worker end up gambling, losing money and what would they resort to do next????? Rob those families staying near their dormitory.... The whole list of problem goes on again and again. We are not trying to discriminiate here as they have their human rights.

matrixneo      ( Date: 17-Feb-2010 10:57) Posted:

its funny that they are trying to stop SGreans from going in by imposing the levy...which is to 'help' to 'ensure' that SGreans wont go into deep debts thus contributing to social and criminal issues...but on the other hand, throngs of foreign workers (I refer to those who are supposed to be lower paid than SGreans) are pouring into the casino...not playing but just standing around probably getting free drinks...depriving real players, esp for those who had paid the levy, from getting in to try their luck.  Since SG and PRs are subjected to levy, why not those holding general employment pass?  I've got nothing against them.  If they were allowed to play and get into debt, wont they be creating much more social problem than we SGreans can get?

Anyway, were those who paid the levy refunded when they were denied entry or not being able to play due to the crowd?

New dress Code - Armpit hair is not supposed to be showing even properly attired!  LOL

New Rules - For safety reason, only RWS's brands of cigarettes and RWS's brand of lighter are allowed to be used in the casino.

I read your blog about national geographic which led me into the following secenario:

I notice that each time when dears or zebras trying to cross the river to a greener pastures, but some always ended up eaten by crocodiles.  Why didnt they learn how to cross the river by using the bridge to avoid being eaten up?    This has taught me that, in stock markets, we have to have knowledge  of TA / trendlines to guide us through in a volitile market all end up eaten up by the crocodile.   :)

What is the moral of this story?  -  to teach the zebras / dears how to use the bridge or to kill all the crocodiles?  hahaha!

I am still holding my small investment in GLD, though i wish it cld go as high as 2000 or 5000 per ounce, am looking into every possibility to sell if  it signals a 'SELL'.

George Soro's investment in gold ETF has doubled, but, did he short it after investing?  No one knows for they dont have to report their 'Short' positions.

US political stands could influence the stock market.  During Bush's administration, his cabinet is full of 'business minded' people who involved in Oil business.  Bush himself owns oil field, didnt he?  Political stands could influence Oil prices, so as Gold prices. :)

Western people, (or Westernsied people)  often can't help thinking that Orientals are literally morons...

Because they will eat a dish based on the sound of its name.

eg. they pay $100 for an tough abalone just because its name sounds 'auspicious'.

they kill all the sharks in the oceon by chopping off their fins just because of the 'auspicious' sound of that item, that item is of course tasteless.

One can go on and on endlessly with examples of such moronic thinking...   Smiley

As people say gold price is controlled by central banker, if its true, the price of gold could drop below half of what it is now if they dont want gold to go up. see below -

But besides waving a gun at anxious gold owners, there seemed only one other route to stopping speculators profiting from – or rather, defending themselves against – the demise of the Dollar.

Fix it up with higher interest rates. The Volcker Fed took US interest rates to 19%...and put the real cost of Dollars above 9% after adjusting for inflation. The
Gold Price sank almost in half inside 12 months.

Because just like Wayne Angell says,   To do that, however, they have to raise interest rates dramatically above inflation. If you don't trust the Bernanke Fed to do that – not least after they cut 0.5% off the returns paid to Dollar savings in mid-Sept. – then you might want to consider
Buying Gold today.

Gold price will surge to $5,000 in two years

Gold Prices will climb to $5,000 within two years due to US dollar weakness and significant buying by players in the hedge fund industry looking to preserve the value of their funds.

That is the opinion of New Zealand market trading expert Welles Wilder, who has previously been highlighted by publications such as Forbes and Barron’s for his skill in the markets, stuff.co.nz reports.

His belief was revealed by another local trader Oli Hille, who trades in New Zealand’s currency markets, and is currently writing a book, which is to be titled Creating the Perfect Lifestyle.

Mr Hille told the news provider: “He implies his call is based on the US dollar becoming weaker and weaker and basically falling out of bed.”

The trader learnt of Mr Wilder’s opinion on Gold Prices while interviewing him for the book, which also includes an interview with New Zealand’s prime minister John Key.

It appears there is a lot of bullish sentiment on Buying Gold outside of the US, with British miner Scotgold Resources’ chief executive Chris Sangster telling the Daily Record: “We see the Gold Price staying high in the long term.”

I am of the 'opinion' that  LVS is targeting at different group of customers from RWS.

LVS is capable of handling big scale conference / meetings / exhibitions of big international corporate  clients.  Just keep our eyes open for a good 1000 tables in a big conference hall might be on their card next round.

RWS is fun-oriented and is suitable for family of young and old for their outdoor and indoor are made to welcome these groups.

DanielXX      ( Date: 16-Feb-2010 22:17) Posted:

For long-term investors of Genting, the key event is not the opening of RWS, but rather the opening of LVS. That's when we'll see how the competitive dynamics will play out. Eventually I think the customer will benefit, like how the local telco industry has evolved.

For the short-term punter, I wish you all the best. I guess instead of shelling out $100 for the entry levy, you're choosing to gamble it on the market instead.

i think he means, Genting SP's share is hit by this correction and become 'badly injured' but, not 'totally injured' (want to die and cant die like that ! hahaha!)    and people keep on buying or shorting until all lose money, lots of money.

If kena hit by car then direct die, just buy coffin + funeral only $5000

This one is hit by car, but cannot die, family member take out all money to save this berger life, then at last, he died 10 days later, hospital fee + surgery fee + coffin + funeral $25000

Just my thought. I am not expert.
