The New Breeds of Traders have just being borned.

Bloomberg defines Window Dressing as trading activity near the end of the quarter or fiscal year that is designed to dress up a portfolio to be presented to clients or shareholders. At the end of most quarters, stocks tend to generally trade higher, but the reverse happened in Singapore yesterday…

I only can think of playing stock is like 'passing the battons around'.   BBs let you hold their shares for a while, after that, buy back from you......LOL!

iPunter      ( Date: 31-Mar-2010 20:58) Posted:

Yes, you are perfectly right as far as playing majong is concerned.

But playing stocks is not playing majong. Whereas when you play majong, you have the other three kakis to 'supervise' you, thus you can't do crazy things. But with stocks, you can without anyone's knowledge, bet a house, or any huge amount, on highly leveraged margin, which is easily obtained, especially if you are well-to do in the first place. (By the way, it is not only the poor who have committed suicide after losing in stocks).

You are right about the practical aspects of stock trading, getting the feel, etc. But even if you are not a gambler, there's much to learn about how to trade, especially the aspects concerning mastering your own behaviour when money is involved. Risk management can be easily taught but not easily learned.

And you are so right that I was once a newbie too. Since the time I started in stocks (and commodities), I have practically bought every book on the market about stock market trading, technical analysis, psychology, etc, thus I have a good basic grounding in the practice of stock trading. But this is really unnecessary because modern course by dedicated authors have distilled the vast wealth of knowledge into single courses. such courses are well worth pursuing, be they in the form of a manual or personal coaching. As long as one understands internally the teachings and lives the teachings religiously (but do not be religious), one is assured of a satisfying activity in stock trading for life. Smiley

HUH?   How can they buy flat and not staying there?  I tot PRs are supposed to be WORKING in singapore in the first place and live here?

wongmx6      ( Date: 31-Mar-2010 21:55) Posted:

Ya, PR should pay higher price, as i know many of them buy HDB then rent out the whole unit and live at JB.

The money from the rental is enough for them to support their House and Car at JB.

S'pore Gov make some of the PR gain easy money.

niuyear      ( Date: 31-Mar-2010 20:58) Posted:

Bingo!  I like this suggestion!! PR should be made to purchase EC or HUDC and private. AFterall, they are PRs, they will ABANDON singapore one day...

P/s  - Heard my friend's son said :  Some china boys serving NS very unwillingly!  Tthey have been complaining that they are the one who 'SACRIFICE' for their families who come here just to become singaporeans !!    How are they going to go thru the 2 years NS life?

OCBC chairman got paid 6.7 million bonus and i think he deserves it.  OCBC's investments so far, got quite good returns even during subprime crisis period.  Bank without pull string or closed family members relationship unlike other bank - CEO and chairman same person.

CENTRAL BANK RULE

The  regulatory changes is due to take effect next year in which banks and insurers have to separate the roles of chairman and chief executive.

How can President Scholars give birth to only 1 kid?   Must have more.....Next time, the criteria to award president scholarship is :  One must be committed to want to get married and have a family and must serve the country. Afterall, this is the most prestigious scholarship.

My master plan? No, mine, government.   The foreigners who turned singaporeans housing ratios has to be under controlled.   So as Geylang.  This area is not only famous for sex trade,   there have been increasing rate since 2008  of foreign criminals (not PR) being caught by police.   Figure from 3,216 (yr 2006) to 3700 (yr 2008)........vietnamese and china ppl form biggest group......

Are we in some kind of danger if we keep having foreigners coming to singapore ?

''''''''''chinamen are the biggest most feared mafias..in hongkong they don’t used parangs to rob banks…they used ak47s..my kaki who was staioned in hongkong for quite some times concurred the real lives..not just some jackie chan/jo0hn woo movies…
to a chinamen what hav they got to loss? to do a crime..either way you are dead…might as well do it BIG…''''''''''''

They try to talk down the property market, so that they come in and buy.

If singapore stays developed, the property index shld be 'Up' all the way,(unless some major blow like subprime crisis)   followed by China and INdia.   $1000 plus psf is a common sight in time to come...

If hve married kid or kid setteld down, i will get them to buy houses when time is right.... they might not able to get 600 or 700 psf  years later....   Unless, they willing to stay with their parents.

The common phenemenon will be -  orchard / area near IRs will be occupied by Foreingers, Sengkan/ponggol occupied by young maried singaporeans,   Outskirts areas occupied by PRs or pr turned singaporeans, and those matured esteates like TPY/AMK etc.........Old couples or perhaps, young married children might be staying with them if they cant afford houses......

Geyland, still remains  red light area ...hahaha!

Ya, survey should be conducted before they implement anything.

On the other hand, the bus drivers driving shorter routes will be less tiring and  they can focus better and have more rests  .  Perhpas, less accidents?   :)

pharoah88      ( Date: 31-Mar-2010 10:47) Posted:

I REFER to “Coming to the end of the long route” (March 29).

I am a student who uses a public bus on a daily basis.  While my house is just a few bus stops away from the MRT, I prefer to take the direct “cross-country” bus from the stop just outside my house to school, although the bus ride takes me approximately 15 to 20 minutes longer to reach my destination.

According to the SBS Transit website, there are 77 stops along the route my bus takes from interchange to interchange.  If the Land Transport Authority (LTA) were to split this route into two shorter ones, the bus might not take me direct to my school and I’d need to transfer — which is very troublesome and defeats the original purpose for me taking the bus as opposed to the train.

There are a few reasons why I prefer the bus.

First, I always manage to find seats on the bus and am able to catch “power naps” on the bus.

Second, the bus takes me right to the doorstep of my school and I never get caught in the rain.  There is no covered walkway from the train station.

Third, a single bus ride fare is cheaper than a single MRT ride, more so when I need to take a bus just to get to the train.

Fourth, bus services usually start earlier and end later than train services.

As such, I hope the LTA will not stop or cut short this bus route and other longer routes that bus-riders like myself enjoy taking.  If the LTA still thinks that this bus route is too long, I hope that proper market research and surveys are carried out, and that all alternatives will be considered and exhausted.

PS:  the Student justifies through personal experience better than the minister saying things from imagination.

Productivity, efficacy, efficiency, economy =  More Output / Less Input.

Cutting one route into two DOUBLES the INPUT

Reducing distance per trip into HALF is tO  HALF the OUTPUT

Productivity, Efficacy, Efficiency, Economy REDUCED to a QUARTER FRACTION.

Acording to property expert in Hong Kong, s'pore property had reach the maximum with bubble forming and over pricing.

With the econonic fundamental remain the same as weak, property price should move down instead of going up, with HDB price up by 40% and private property price up by 35% over a period of 3 years. All up prices are due to speculation.

With the s'pore govenment intervention, it shows that bubble had already form and gov will take further action to cool the propety market.

Expert claim that the market should stabilise for short term but may adjust down in the long run.

Example some had brouht the recently launch 99 yrs Koven Resident (1200 sf) at over S$1 million. So adjustment of 5% down will cost a lost of $50 000, plus bank loan interest and stamp duty, easily lost $200 000.

So please do a proper calculation before investment in the hot property market.

Good luck.
