I received a notice from my brokers the contents I reproduce below.

Dear Customer,

A self-trade is one in which you have an open order on one side of the market (a buy, for example) and you enter another order for the same stock at the same price on the other side of the market (a sell) when the buy is still 'live', and your buy and sell execute with each other. This type of trade is also called a wash trade. Wash trades are illegal -- they give the perception of market activity without the associated risk. Please take great care when trading to avoid entering an order that may cause a wash trade to occur. If you have a buy open and want to place a sell at the same price, it would be best to cancel the buy first so as to eliminate the possibility of a wash trade.

For example: you have an open buy order for 100 MSFT at 31.25 GTC entered yesterday and you enter a sell for 100 MSFT at 31.25 (or below) today. The buy and sell both execute at 31.25 with each other. This would be a wash trade, and must be avoided.

Genting soars as Sands effect appear muted

SINGAPORE, April 29 — The benchmark Straits Times Index was 0.56 per cent higher as of 0310 GMT today.

Shares of Genting Singapore rose as much as 9.2 per cent to 94.5 Singapore cents, two days after rival operator Las Vegas Sands opened the city-state’s second casino.

“Some people have observed that for the past couple of days, the crowd at Genting was still brisk,” a trader with a local brokerage said.

CIMB also upgraded Genting Singapore to “outperform” and maintained its target price of S$1.23.

“We believe that both properties have different propositions, reaching out to different market segments,” CIMB said in a report.

“RWS (Resorts World at Sentosa) will appeal to the family-oriented gamblers while MBS (Marina Bay Sands), with its extensive retail and MICE facilities and CBD location, is well position to capture a slice of business travellers”.

Around 0310 GMT, Genting Singapore was up 8.1 per cent at 93.5 Singapore cents with over 213 million shares changing hands. — Reuters

Time to load up this babe for the mid-year bonus 2010 ! Just a few months ago, smart BB loaded at 18c. Now smarter guys are accummulating at 13.5c. Singapore outperforms Wall Street, Hongkong and Shanghai as
STI recovers exactly two-thirds

A simple measure of index performance of the 4 markets clearly shows the ST Index has outshone the rest, making an exactly 66.6% recovery of its crash from 3831 to 1455 when it touched 3038 last week.
Wall Street comes closest to Singapore, up 60.6% (at latest 2010 high of 11,155) from 2008 low of 6470.
More similarities between the 2 markets can be seen when both DJIA and STI reached 2010 highs at about the same time. But the Dow, which peaked at 14,198 in Oct 2007, still lags STI as it has yet to reach the Fibonacci 61.8% mark of 11,245. If it were to match STI’s two-thirds recovery, it means another 462 points upside potential to Dow 11,617 to reach the STI’s equivalent of 3038.
The current resistance faced by the STI at 3000 psychological level and later at 3038 is perhaps to give the other 3 major indices time to play catch-up.
Strangely enough both HK and Shanghai had shown a better result last year with highs of 23,100 and 3478 respectively. This year’s highs for HSI and SCI are lower at 22,672 and 3307.
Shanghai despite China’s renewed economic and property boom, had recovered only 40.7% of its crash from record 6124 to 1665, at 3478 high last year but is now back to below the 38.2% mark of 3368. Because of its closer proximity with Wall Street and indirectly Singapore, HSI has recovered a much higher 58.4% at 2009 high of 23,100 but is now back to a slightly lower 55% recovery.

Both HK and Shanghai should soon follow the lead of both Wall Street and Singapore in breaking out of 2009’s highs.

For long-term vision, I think the changes in the property policy by China garment is timely and a healthy one. Chinese economy has become important to global economy as that of US. So, short-term correction in property prices is better than a long-term crisis like that of subprime . 'IF" a crash in chinese market becomes reality, we may have to take more than years to recover and following scenario may occur in singapore :

Property agents becomes construction workers (no one wants to buy property) to tear down the half-built condo or hdb flats or their commisions will be revoked.

Construction workers become road sweepers for all bangldeshi workers got sent home

Housewives become maids

Hahahah!

This is definitely true to some extent. Many football fans/punters are also share investors/traders. All have limited resources. Also if they are betting on the games, many will stay late in the night and early morning to watch the matches. So they will likely sleep in the day or wake up late in the morning or early afternoon. Many will also likely to skip the stock market.

Not to forget May is the month "Sell your stocks and go away". World cup starts on the 2nd week of June. Schedule can be found in Fifa website.
