ah starhub. good choice. :)

hehe rickytan, don't listen to ipunter too much; i believe that guy/girl moves quite fast. hold your nerves when dealing with the punter. :)

am quite free now... so if you like, if you can kindly point me to the latest report on UIC (actual report or the link), i could call a retail FA sell target for you? (altho my best advice is still to follow the trend). then judge for yourself if UIC or starhub has better potential.

oh, i've worked in two different industries, entering a 3rd one in jan. they're all very dif, but they require the same skill sets: precision, psychological analysis, and strategy.

do i assume you're eyeing ho bee?

punter, act i consider to sell at one of two signals:

1) if the trend reads sell.

2) if i think i can make a better profit on another counter.

Meaning if i'm currently eyeing another counter and i think its upside is significantly more than UIC's upside, then i'll actually sell out UIC now and buy the other counter. It's a judgement call. But if i'm not eyeing another counter, then, no sense shorting a winner. (also, if you don't need the cash to buy the other counter, no sense shorting it.)

hi rickytan, yep, osim's oversold. been oversold for quite a period of time already. concur with singaporegal on the downtrend reading too.

altho i'd never underestimate someone like ron sim tho. Was very impressed with him. in the days when they were just a small fry and asking for bank loans, this bigshot CEO himself did the presentation to a global bank, and he was wearing the same polo shirt as the rest of his group. Reason: they were a team and they worked together. No airs at all. Impressive.

hey rickytan, don't sell yet. It's on a very strong uptrend. If post xmas haze it can go up like this, there's no telling what it can hit in 1st week of jan. :)

don't know abt price targets, but if the signals read overheated, then you sell. Not yet tho!

wing tai seems to be a little exhausted from all its running lately. hehe. Can still move, but give it til the new year to catch its breath first.

hey, ok TA people beware. Backtests show that no indicators are sufficiently accurate enough for osim. meaning difficult to call support or resistant level. Closest is the RSI. so caveat emptor.

it's dropping 'cos of bad china imitations of their products, which has given osim a bad name in china currently. And since they're a 'lifestyle' industry, it's very much on image; which is why FA people don't like to call on it either. i don't know how they'll extricate themselves from this situation really.

heyhey....sigh, right now, i think i'll settle for regular internet access rather than alcohol. >~<

yep, don't get discouraged. the impt thing's to learn from mistakes. And lest i come across as such a 'golden girl' (iPunter, you're too effusive in your praises lah), lemme 'fess up now to my mistakes. haha.

in the past 5 years i've made two bad calls. First was when i bought into market hype about a 'darling', second was when i clung to a loser. I learnt my lesson at the cost of 14k. Thankfully investing's a battle and not just single wars; overall portfolio-wise i've never made a loss. But never again man. My current portfolio's all black, i have no favourite stock, nor favourite method. I take only what works.

yes, invest according to your personality! When I profiled retail clients in the past, what we realised was that, despite what they said, most singaporeans in reality are conservative investors (MBTI personality profile = ISTJ); very few are actually suited for aggressive trading.

awchyeong and ten4one, you two are talking about growth stocks, essentially. these are the quiet babies that institutions tend to be bearish on (understandable, since they want to buy them without you knowing!), but which consistently grow into bluechip (or close to that) status. Like osim abt 2-3 years ago. I bought at ~82c (counting in share split), sold at $1.70 a few months back. All the while, FA reports basically said it sucked. But read between the lines in FA.

and hehe, let's spice things up a little amid all this down-talk. I'll drop a name for the FA people to check up on now: Eu yan sang. go read its report and tell me what you think. haha. ;)

ok, this is for the beginner trader (expert traders, do feel free to correct me: i am not always right):

there are four emotions which control the stock market: arrogance--it makes you think you know the market when you don't; greed--it makes you take unnecessary risks, terror and hope. The 3rd makes you short your winners, the last makes you cling to your losers. In trading, you _feel nothing_. That is how you post a profit. Read what IS, not what you want to see. Easier said than done, of course, i know that firsthand.

Also, for those who like FA. Pls be careful. FA works IF you know how to read the details between the lines. If all you see is 'target price: xxx; recommended "BUY", then chances are, you are going to spend your investing life averaging up your losers and shorting your winners.

FA reports are issued by institutional brokers. They work for the _institutions_. We are retail investors. In many cases, we're at cross purposes. (after all, when they want to sell, someone has to buy, isn't it? like i said before, greater fool theory. Pls don't trust 'recommended BUY' calls unless you read solid fundamentals in the same report.

CAO: singaporegal, smart call. The institutions knew before already that something was wrong. For the beginners, reports are always released at least 1-2 days, sometimes a week, to the institutions before the market knows. it gives them time to react. and personally, heh. i don't trust china plays too.

oh dear....my sympathies to all here. you know, almost all the stocks you guys and ladies mentioned were institutional plays where they intended to catch out the small guys. Do learn to read TA: if you're not in the fund mgmt biz, it is the best way to catch signals if people are manipulating the counter.

awchhyeong, your strat is right. And yes, DCA (what you are doing) works only with blue chip stocks--choose those linked with Temasek and you cannot go wrong. There's nothing wrong with being a defensive/long term trader. In a bad year, you will post 5-7% returns, in a good year, 25%.

Act i did long postings on DCA strat and gave an eg (CHT) on how to see manipulation in another post 'what stocks to buy now'. Do refer to those. I'm no expert, but hopefully, it'll help those who are getting caught.

heh heh. giantlow, all that glitters may not be gold. And only time will tell if my calls are accurate or not. Let's not get caught up in irrational exuberance. In the stock market, time is the gold standard.

iPunter, act i'm a published writer (just a small fry of course) both locally and overseas. but no, i don't blog. like my privacy. sold your singtel already?

ok people, i think we've digressed enough already; weekend's over, trading week begins, let's get serious. We'll leave private conversations to private times. Let's not disappoint the thousands (!! so scary!) of viewers wanting to find tips/education.

hm, and i've said before already, i abhor the kind of slime-ing and verbal abuse that characterises so many local forums. If that ever happens here, this elf is outta here man. So let's make sharejunction a cut above the rest; a fun, friendly and educational haven for all the small fishies out there. yea? :)

eyes on the screen, people. In a fallow week like this, you can get bargains, and you can also get caught. Trends change very fast.

haha ok, will stick with proper english from now on. apologies to all the gentlemen and ladies horrified. haha. what's life for if we can't even poke fun at ourselves once in a while. right? hehe.

eh what show? sorry i don't watch local TV...

btw, a bit belated, but i perceive ppl are having problems with my nick. feel free to shorten it to elf. :)

rogue_trader, i agree with you. Which is why i choose to back up all my trades in full cash, rather than margin calling. It makes me take full responsibility for myself and that i never end up in debt. much the same way i don't believe in living life on credit.

in a way i guess, this involves taking more risks. but hey, that's how we learn. :)
