STOCKS NEWS SINGAPORE-Index hits 5-year high, tracking Wall St

Singapore shares rose to their highest in more than five years
on Tuesday, tracking U.S. stock market which closed at a record
high in the previous session.
The Straits Times Index < .FTSTI> rose 0.6 percent to
3,382.93, the highest since January 2008.
The MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside
Japan < .MIAPJ0000PUS> was up 1 percent, after the S& P 500 index
closed at an all-time high on Monday. [.N]
Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp  , Singapore's
second-largest lender, traded flat at S$10.92, retreating from a
record high of S$11.07 last week. It reported a 16 percent fall
in first-quarter profit earlier in the day. [ID:nL3N0DG1GP]
Other banking shares rose to their highest since 2008.
Shares of United Overseas Bank Ltd  matched Monday's
five-year high of S$21.39, and DBS Group Holdings Ltd
rose to the highest since mid-2008.
" Banking shares are doing well, helped by expectation that
the Cyprus crisis may push some money to migrate from Europe to
Singapore," said a trader, who declined to be named.
Shares of Starhub Ltd  hit a record high of S$4.76
and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd  extended gains
for the second straight session.
Shares of Aussino Group Ltd  jumped 7 percent to
S$0.107, recovering from a 40 percent slump in the previous
session after the Singapore Exchange rejected its application
for a S$70 million reverse takeover deal with a company linked
to a Myanmar tycoon who is on the U.S. sanction list.

Group claims responsibility for false tweet:report

By V. Phani Kumar

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- A group calling itself the Syrian Electronic Army, which is supportive of Syrian leader Bashar Al-Assad, has claimed responsibility for a false tweet from a hacked Associated Press twitter account that briefly slammed U.S. stocks Tuesday, according to reports. The attack shows how hackers were using so-called " phishing" techniques to misuse Twitter accounts belonging to some of the most respected news agencies in the world, The Huffington Post reported. It said the group has also taken credit for hacking the Twitter accounts of other news agencies including NPR, Reuters, BBC and Al Jazeera in recent weeks. CNBC reported separately that the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Secret Service and the Securities and Exchange Commission were all investigating the tweet from the Associated Press account, which said that two explosions had occurred in the White House and that President Barack Obama was injured. AP later said its account had been hacked.

Very well said.

No one really hates you, but probably just find you annoying and " in-your-face" . You have to realise not everyone shares your mentality or view of stocks and the stock market. The same goes for life, you cannot expect everyone to follow your school of thoughts and keep influencing everyone to do the same thing as you if not something bad will happen to them. We are all adults and we have our own thinkings and values/beliefs. You are probably still  living in your HK drama /movie fantasy as a great " sifu" or " hero" when you expect you can " teach" and influence everyone else to follow ur advice and then they become grateful to you. You want to earn appreciation and respect from people, go get it from real life and the real world.

student      ( Date: 24-Apr-2013 09:48) Posted:

@sifu SJ-Stomper*  Thank you for your understanding and correct perception.

It reminds me of a HK movie in which a good-hearted trainer looked after a group of young recruits. Because of his harsh and sometimes mocking approach, the recruits hated him in the beginning buit ended up to be thankful to him in the end, but not before.

Stocks is a somewhat similar situation. It is a truly a battlefield.

I will not post more, but for newbies' greater insight, please get hold of Jesse Livermore's books and digest them, and also some stock market " battle" books.

*PS. It's really heartening to see at least one who is appreciative.
