DJ MARKET TALK: Macquarie Cuts Genting Singapore To Neutral

0033 GMT [Dow Jones] STOCK CALL: Macquarie downgrades Genting Singapore (G13.SG) to Neutral from Outperform, cuts target price to S$1.75 from S$2.10 to account for lower longer-term growth projections; "we think market growth will stabilise and the current price is factoring in overly optimistic growth assumptions." Notes Resorts World Sentosa's performance peaked in April, before opening of Marina Bay Sands, has since been tad lower. Says RWS patronage may be affected when Galaxy Entertainment (0027.HK) opens its integrated resort in Macau in 1Q11. Adds increased intervention in gaming business by Singapore government can't be ruled out, given recent order by country's casino regulator for both operators to stop bus services shuttling Singaporeans; "this highlights the political sensitivity to locals gambling and raises the level of political risk in the market." Shares down 2.6% at S$1.90 yesterday.

Genting S'pore needs to amass cash: analysts

SHAREHOLDERS of Genting Singapore won't be receiving dividend payouts from now through 2011 - due to restrictions in a $4 billion bank loan it took to build its flagship Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) - even though the company's earnings potential looks robust in light of its recent second-quarter results.

Citing confidentiality terms, Genting Singapore said it could not specify the conditions that restrict dividend payouts in the loan agreement it reached in 2008 with five banks to raise funds for the $6 billion resort. The banks are DBS, OCBC, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp.

Some analysts, however, believe the company isn't issuing dividends because it is amassing cash for future regional and global expansion projects.

The question of dividend payouts was raised by some shareholders at an extraordinary general meeting on Wednesday to vote on a proposed divestment of Genting Singapore's UK casino operations to parent Genting Malaysia.

A company spokesman said on Wednesday that Genting Singapore 'believes in long-term shareholder value and is using the cash flow to increase shareholder value through its investments'.

The company's board of directors said they haven't ruled out the possibility of issuing dividends upon fulfilment of those loan conditions.

But the company spokesman couldn't comment on when those conditions would be fulfilled or when it would make a dividend payout to its shareholders.

'In the next couple of years, it's unlikely the company will dole out dividends,' said Vincent Khoo, head of research for UOB Kay Hian Malaysia. 'In the future, it might dole out modest dividends. But the company will plough back a substantial portion of retained earnings for future regional expansion.'

An analyst with Morgan Stanley Research said dividend payouts are 'not in the mind of a casino (operator) that is ramping up and has intentions to grow its gaming business across the globe'.

'They might have restrictions on existing debt, but they can repay the debt any time they want because they have cash on their balance sheet,' the analyst said.

Some investors question whether, given the strong financial results of the company, it is worth paying a high share price valuation for a company that they perceive as not doing enough in terms of transparency and dividend payouts.

At least one Genting Singapore shareholder says he believes the company will start paying out dividends only when its casino operations have stabilised.

'As a shareholder, I'm not very happy there's no dividend this time,' he said. 'But this is just their first year of operations in Singapore, and they're still putting in money to build Phase 2 of Resorts World.'

'I'm waiting to see what kind of fixed dividend policy the company will come out with once its Singapore operations stabilise,' he added.

For now, he said, he intends to continue holding his Genting Singapore shares because he has confidence in its potential.

'But by next year, if there's still no dividend, then I'll paint a different picture.'

Tom Arasi, chief executive of Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore casino of U.S. group Las Vegas Sands (LVS.N), has resigned and will leave on Feb. 18, according to a memo seen by Reuters on Friday.

A Marina Bay Sands spokeswoman confirmed Arasi’s resignation but declined to elaborate.

Marina Bay Sands, built at a cost of US$5.5 billion ($7.03 billion), opened its doors last April. It US$242 million in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation for the quarter ended Sept 30, Las Vegas Sands said on Oct 27.

The U.S. casino group will report fourth-quarter results on Feb 3.

GENTING's share price has been under a lot of Shorties' Pressure not Bulge Brackets', none of the BANKS are selling their Genting shares, noting that Genting's 4th Quarter Results will be Extraordinarily Higer than any of the previous Quarters, "big operators" have been shorting the stock to consolidate at a lower price in wait for the BIG WAVE. Results on the 18th FEB, any wonder why Tom Arasi, the chief executive CEO of Marina Bay Sands, biggest and one and only rival of Genting has resigned and will leave on Feb. 18? Brokerages and banks have been keeping their "BUY" calls even when the share price dropped 20cents in 1-2 weeks? Coincidental? Do note from the chart, Genting "always" dropped the previous 8-10days before the Significant RiseUp Rally of 20-30cents. The recent "bad air" surrounding Casino stocks involve STANLEY HO, the billionaire, and his fight with his relatives over his shares in the biggest casino stakes. Singapore "PUNTERS" or should we just call them "OPERATORS", have been chancing on this MUCH NEEDED news to SHORT the stock so as to consolidate at a lower price. Genting is and will always be Punter's favorite for it is easy to manipulate and retailer's are always one step forward two steps back. CHINESE NEW YEAR what can we expect from Genting's earnings? Where do people go during this 4days period but to try their luck? The BIG CHINESE NEW YEAR rally coinciding with GENTING'S fourth QUARTER results due later in the month is the catalyst to push the price at least to a reasonable range of 2.3 - 2.5 based on NAVs and BUY CALLS targets of DBS VICKERS, OCBC SECURITIES, KIM ENG, PHILIPS ranging from 2.5 to 2.7. Wonder why none of the brokerages issued any "NEWS" regarding Genting while still maintaining their BUYS even after a significant 20cents drop in 1-2 weeks? NONE of the brokerages but KAYHIAN are opposite BUYS. The recent price action has been the result of "syndicates of operational SHORTIES'" consolidations and accumulations. CATCH THE SHORTIES and FLY WITH THE BIG BOYS.

Concern :

1)  Stimulus package

The 2010 stimulus plan passed  early this year,  has run out in DEC 2010.

Lets watch if the next stimulus plan will come out soon and work to recovery in 2011.

2) US Tax Increases in 2011 --

The rich are feeling the pain now due to paying of higher tax as in $1 they earn, they are giving out almost $0.60 .  Will they pull out of wall street and put their money somewhere else?  Yet to watch. Though there seem to be increasingly buying of real estates in order to benefit frm the high taxation, if not,  are they going to go somewhere else to invest?  Hopefully singapore ?    yes or no?    :)

KUALA LUMPUR: The local market, especially key blue chips with high foreign holdings, may have seen oversold conditions and analysts expect the market to regain its strength as there is still a lot of liquidity in the system.

On Tuesday, Jan 25, the FBM KLCI fell for a fifth consecutive day as profit taking continued to chip away more of the gains from the rally in the beginning of the year, with select blue chips and index-linked plantation-related stocks among the major losers.

Analysts said for Malaysia, there is buying opportunity for oversold counters and plantations still offer upside based on the firmer crude palm oil prices.

They said the recent profit taking by foreign funds is due to risk aversion about monetary tightening and inflation risks.

As for the US market, at some point in time it will stagnate but for Malaysia, everything is line for us, such as a stronger currency while the awarding of the marginal oil fields would create a sense of leadership among the oil and gas players, said the head of a foreign research house. However, he was more cautious in the second half.

On Wall Street, U.S. stocks erased losses in a late flurry of buying to end little changed on Tuesday as overall optimism about earnings offset disappointing results from blue chips 3M and Johnson & Johnson.

About 70% of S&P companies so far have beaten estimates, but worries about inflation cutting into profits have caused investors to jump on shares of companies that only produce spectacular results, Reuters reports.

The Dow Jones industrial average finished down 3.33 points, or 0.03 percent, at 11,977.19. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 0.34 point, or 0.03 percent, at 1,291.18. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 1.70 points, or 0.06 percent, at 2,719.25. The S&P 500 index bounced off support at 1,280 in a sign of the market's resilience despite some disappointing earnings.

At Bursa Malaysia, stocks to watch are Public Bank Bhd, Proton Holdings Bhd, Ramunia Holdings Bhd, Integrax Bhd and the Genting group.

Public Bank Bhd net profit in 4Q grew 24.8% to RM846.19 million from RM678.23 million a year earlier, beating analysts' expectations. Public Bank Bhd net profit in 4Q grew 24.8% to RM846.19 million from RM678.23 million a year earlier. Revenue rose 18.8% to RM2.97 billion from RM2.5 billion. Full-year net profit came to RM3.05 billion, up 21% from RM2.52 billion a year earlier, while revenue rose 13.6% to RM11.04 billion from RM9.72 billion.

The Edge FinancialDaily reports the government will not force a merger between Proton Holdings Bhd and Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) to kickstart the consolidation in the domestic auto industry, according to International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed. But does it really need to when government-linked parties are already major shareholders in both companies?

Oilcorp Bhd has agreed to accept an offer from Ramunia Holdings Bhd to acquire the Pulau Indah integrated fabrication yard for RM83.8 million from the former's subsidiary Oilfab Sdn Bhd.

OilCorp's 51%-owned Oilfab accepted an offer made by Ramunia to acquire the yard, the moveable and immoveable assets.

Perak Equity Sdn Bhd and Taipan Merit Sdn Bhd have proposed to remove Harun Halim Rasip and Datuk Onn Hamzah as directors of Integrax Bhd, which does not bode well for the company.

Integrax received a special notice from Perak Equity and Taipan Meriot, which hold 24.94 million shares and 20 million shares respectively about their intention to propose the resolutions to remove Harun and Onn.

The Edge Financial Daily reports that rarely in the limelight compared with other members of the Genting Group, Genting Hong Kong Ltd (Genting HK) may have its turn at drawing attention this year.

Major corporate developments aside such as the planned listing of its 50%-owned cruise line operator NCL Corp Ltd, the group's cruise line business, coupled with casino operations in Manila, is also starting to churn out impressive returns.

Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI) posted marginally lower earnings of RM25.29 million in the second quarter ended Dec 31, 2010 when compared with RM25.71 million a year ago. Its revenue increased 6% to RM367.59 million versus RM345.57 million. Its earnings per share were 13.05 sen compared with 13.19 sen a year ago.

MPI said the pretax profit of RM34.84 million against RM33.06 million a year ago, despite the higher revenue was mainly due to the strengthening ringgit against the US dollar.

Jurong commercial hub  vs   Paya Lebar commercial Hub -

Imagining a  commercial hub by the LAKE,  beautiful.

In terms of  property appreciation, Jurong,by far, has  more room to grow and can be more attractive than that in paya lebar region.  East side property has already appreciated over the period of time.   My 2 cents worth.
