err...........high fuel oil will bring passengers to  budget airlines and people who are going for leisure trip,   will tend to avoid going places whereby budget airlines dont go.  Makes sense?  SIA will be affected by high fuel oil   and it has already taken step to ask their pilots go on no-pay leave.

Passenger load declining.. Oil price sky rocket high. Over heads from oil would eat into its further looses....
Not yet out of the woods though, positive news are Australia's operation resume but not fully. Their Indonesia joint venture... just given license to fly. But before it can start, fuel cost hits them hard.  Oil prices is expected to go further up so all those high oil consuming business.....Planes, ships...cargo...NOL would be hit hard.

STI is now just 4pts shy from its recent high of 3030. The rise
does not come as a surprise to us - we had highlighted in our
latest Wired Weekly that the pullback has ended at 2906 last
week and 3030 is the upper near-term range. Still, we observe
the swift 120pt rise in a matter of 5 trading days, which appears
to peel away the 3000 near-term resistance. We lift the
immediate support to 2990. If STI continues to hold above this
level (preferably 2990-3010), it should build further strength
towards 3070 followed by 3145 in coming week(s). Otherwise,
a decline below 2990 should still find support at 2930-50. |

In the the recent rise of both crude oil and gasoline (petrol) prices, there has been an increasing amount of interest in how crude oil is used to make gasoline. In this article, I will explain the basic refining process and point you to other sources where you can find more detailed information on this topic.
Crude oil, otherwise known as petroleum, is a fossil fuel that is extracted from the ground and refined to make a wide variety of products ranging from liquids like cleaning solvents and motor fuels to solids such as asphalt and plastics. The proportion of crude oil that is ultimately converted into gasoline varies according to region and the type of refinery. In the United States, where demand for gasoline is remarkably high, this proportion is around 50 percent while in other areas of the world such as Europe and Asia, this amount is somewhat less. However, refineries in these regions produce proportionately higher percentages of diesel oil, heating oil, and heavy fuel oil. A good estimate of the exact breakdown of petroleum products by percentage of crude oil in the United States can be found at the California Energy Commission.
In order to make gasoline (and all of the other petroleum products), crude oil is sent to a refinery and put through a process called fractional distillation, which is the same basic method that is used to make stronger alcoholic beverages such as vodka, whiskey, and rum. The crude oil is first heated in a boiler by superheated steam, which effectively vaporizes most of it before being transferred to a distillation column. This column is a tall, cylindrical tower that contains many trays and plates on which the vaporized oil is allowed to condense as it rises and cools. The heavier components of oil which contain longer hydrocarbon chains and have higher boiling points will condense first near the bottom of the column, while the lighter components will rise further and condense into liquids near the top.
Most of these separated components are processed further before being made into finished products and shipped to market. For example, some of the heavier hydrocarbons can be “cracked” by intense heat, high pressures, and various chemical catalysts to produce additional gasoline as well as other fuels such as kerosene and diesel. Other oil byproducts serve as precursors to plastics or other solid goods, and some are also made into lubricants such as Vaseline. After the secondary cracking processes are completed, one of the final products that is left over as a residue is called coke (not to be confused with the beverage Coca-Cola), a substance that is almost pure carbon and is used in steel production and for other metallurgical purposes. In the 19th century, coke was also used as a fuel for locomotive engines.
A more detailed explanation of the process of refining crude oil into gasoline can be found in the Nontechnical Guide to Petroleum Geology. Another notable content-rich resource that I ran across is called Oilfield Processing: Crude Oil. Although it is a bit heavy on text and detail, it contains a wealth of information about crude oil and how it is processed into gasoline and many other useful products. A somewhat related article on the benefits of synthetic oil can be found in a later post.

Consumer group finds cancer-causing chemical in colas [Updated]
Scientists at the Center for Science in the Public Interest said Monday that laboratory tests found " high levels" of a caramel coloring that causes cancer in regular and diet Coke and Pepsi. (Darron Cummings/Associated Press)
|
By Eryn Brown, Los Angeles Times / For the Booster Shots blog
March 5, 2012, 4:19 p.m.
In a letter to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the consumer watchdog group Center for Science in the Public Interest called on officials to ban the use of caramel coloring in popular soft drinks, citing a possible cancer risk.
This isn’t the first time that CSPI has targeted the food additive that gives colas, including Coke and Pepsi, their familiar brown color. The organization first petitioned the FDA on the matter in 2011, noting that 2-methylimidazole and 4-methylimidazole, which form when sugar is mixed with ammonia and sulfites to create caramel coloring, had been shown to cause lung, liver and thyroid cancer in mice and rats.
In a letter written Monday to FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg, CSPI executive director Michael F. Jacobson described recent lab analyses that showed 4-methylimidazole, or 4-MI, levels in 12-ounce servings of soda that exceeded the 29 microgram limit recommended by the state of California by nearly five times. The average 4-MI content for samples of regular and diet Coke, Pepsi and Dr. Pepper and Whole Foods 365 cola was 138 micrograms. (Some samples of Dr. Pepper and the Whole Foods cola sample had far lower amounts of 4-MI, however.)
The CSPI letter said that the average level of 4-MI indicated a lifetime risk of cancer of five out of 100,000 people in the population -- and perhaps more when people who do not drink sodas are left out of the calculation. “When most people see 'caramel coloring' on food labels, they likely interpret that quite literally and assume the ingredient is similar to what you might get by gently melting sugar in a saucepan. The reality it quite different,” said Jacobson, in a statement released by the organization Monday.
Food industry groups pooh-poohed the complaint. On Monday, the American Beverage Association called the CSPI news release a " scare tactic," saying in a statement that " findings of regulatory agencies worldwide, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, European Food Safety Authority and Health Canada, consider caramel coloring safe for use in foods and beverages."
In 2011 an article on Time magazine's Healthland blog quoted one scientist who said that a human being would have to drink more than 1,000 sodas a day to achieve exposure to 2-MI and 4-MI that had been shown to cause cancer in the lab animals.
Jacobson's letter to the FDA questioned whether any amount of caramel coloring was appropriate. " The caramel coloring added to soft drinks serves a totally cosmetic function," it said. " We suspect that most consumers would prefer a clear beverage without an unnecessary carcinogen over a dark-brown beverage with a carcinogen."
But the far bigger worry for soda drinkers remains high-fructose corn syrup and other sugars used in soft drinks. " Soda drinkers are much more likely than non-soda drinkers to develop weight gain, obesity, diabetes and other health problems," CSPI's statement explained.
In 2007, The Los Angeles Times reported on the potential cancer risk from sweeteners like aspartame. The truly health-conscious will probably want to avoid sodas altogether -- whether they're made with caramel coloring, artificial sweeteners or loads of sugar or not.
[Updated at 11:25 a.m., March 6: Ben Sheidler, a spokesman forCoca-Cola, wrote to Booster Shots on Tuesday with a response to the CSPI report: " The body of science about 4-MEI in foods or beverages does not support the erroneous allegations that CSPI would like the public to believe," he wrote. " The 4-MEI levels in our products pose no health or safety risks. Outside of California, no regulatory agency concerned with protecting the public's health has stated that 4-MEI is a human carcinogen. The caramel color in all of our ingredients has been, is and always will be safe." ]

Bill Clinton Has Finally Agreed To Help Barack Obama Woo Wall Street Donors

Former President Bill Clinton will give his one-time frenemy Barack Obama a major assist as the campaign fundraising race heats up for the 2012 presidential election, Bloomberg reported Monday.    Sources told Bloomberg that No. 43 will join President Obama at upcoming fundraising events in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Spokesmen for Obama and Clinton did not confirm the report.    According to Bloomberg, the New York event will specifically target donors in the financial services industry, a major source of campaign cash for Obama in 2008. The President has struggled to compete with his presumptive Republican opponent Mitt Romney this time around Romney, the founder of Bain Capital, has raised nearly three times more Wall Street cash than Obama during this election cycle.   Democrats are clearly hoping that Clinton will help give Obama's re-election campaign an extra edge, particularly among Democratic donors who supported his wife against Obama in 2008. The former president has a 67% approval rating, and the possibility of rubbing shoulders with two presidents might be too good for New York powerbrokers to pass up. Plus, Clinton definitely has an in with the Wall Street set — he was recently seen lunching with Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein in Boca Raton.    The joint fundraisers will also have the added benefit of showcasing Democratic unity, providing a useful contrast to the divisive chaos of the Republican primary. Although the relationship between Obama and the Clintons has been rocky at times, the two presidents appear to have patched things up in recent months
