How low can the downtrend goes. . . So I take its PE, NAV and Market total capitalization into my keep buying strategy's several important variables to be seriously considered! Do you notice, that is why, I like buying and accumulating small cap local stocks especially penny S-chip! So some how, some day, you 'll be the market leader not the follower!

Rotijai...

Your are perfectly right, and also very  intelligent

to note that one should be buying only great

stocks (great fundamentals) and not just

                        any 'cat and dog' stock.

                                    The point is short-term traders

do not or cannot afford to lose

thousands or millions of dollars when a

great stock goes on a downtrend mode.

Traders would rather buy a stock when it

is at a year low, rather than hold the stock

down from the year high...  Smiley

Interesting statements by many forumers here on this topic. Some raise very good points and good argument. However, will there be any change?????? Maybe or maybe not !!!

For me, for the time being I will stay far far away from S Chips (Penny Stocks). I was hit a few times.Scare  Scare Leow.

Let it be, that is the common capital market price mechanism in the long run!

focusy      ( Date: 12-Jun-2011 20:42) Posted:

Sapphire is a Singapore owned & run company but its operating assets are in China where it holds partial stakes.
Sapphire could be mistaken as a S-Chip and that is why its stock price has been drifting down. The best is still a long way off, if you read this NextInsight report:

SAPPHIRE CORP: Strong growth to come from 2013 on jump in vanadium production

LENDING your own share is directly or indirectly " COUNTER ATTACK ACT" to your own destructive potential capital gain of your said share holdings (The shares that you are lending). It is quite a fool perhaps and short-sighted to earn quick baht without considering your mid to long term potential capital gain! It seems, it is one of the " QUANTITATIVE" measure by SGX, actually, not so favourable to the lended share players! I presume.

Alligator      ( Date: 13-Jun-2011 11:35) Posted:

there is a min quantity for lending.

long time ago when I check, it was something like 100K .

but I think this number changes, depending on the pool.

you have to have a lot of lots to be eligible for lending.

read their procedure and FAQ. call their hot line if you are interested, they will tell you what is min.http://www.cdp.com.sg/faq/lend_faq.html

While holding on to stocks hoping for long term capital growth, lending these holdings to CDP at 4% sounds logical to me.

Anyone can advise how retail investor like myself can start lending my holdings to cdp?

Do I need to open a securities borrowing/learning account with one of the trading portals?

If only SGX will take your suggestions. Anyway, capital market mechanism has totally changed since global financial tsunami recently in 2008!

AnthonyTan      ( Date: 13-Jun-2011 12:11) Posted:

Previously a co. must have 3 preceeding yrs of making profit

before it is allow to be listed. THE SGX SHOULD NOW MAKE IT

COMPULSORY AGAIN. Pl. do not allow any tom dick or harry seeking

funds from public to be listed.THE SGX SHOULD BE MORE

STRINGENT IN THEIR LISTING REQUIREMENTS. One or two

failure S-chip co. is acceptable but not so many of them. Why the coincidence.

So much so that the a/c and balance sheets look ok, the cash could be in some

ppl personal bank  a/c lor.

Laulan      ( Date: 13-Jun-2011 11:30) Posted:

I think again, and reason that if S-Chips are that bad, why have them approved for listing in the first place.   And why slap themselves in the face and exposing their lack of foresight, expertise or lack of good bourses governance.   It goes to show that authorities in the relevant exchanges are either sleeping or they could be they are in cahoots with dishonourable elements of the markets.   Don't tell me that they can't differentiate between a good set of accounts and a lying account?   Something is wrong somewhere, where is the due diligence, the responsibility to the investing public?

But anyway, it is not too late now to tackle the S-Chip problems properly.   The law must be passed that all directors are personally liable for all deeds of their listed company's transaction and can be sued as a person in relation to their companies and not just the company being sued as a legal entity that they enjoy.   Company laws must be change for list companies (public companies, especially the listed ones). In addition, the accountants and auditors (whistler blowers) must both have certain liabilities over the affairs of the companies they are accounting or auditing because they are paid to do the job. So before and after listing, they should be accountable like the architects who are accountable for the collapse of a building due to structural faults found in later years.   If there are such a protective framework in place, I think the market place will be a safer one.

It will not be dead, but it needs some huge correction, since the price valuation and its business bright prospect and sustainable profit growth were all  too optimistically justified too high/promising/good  before!
