MFA to S’poreans: Leave risky zones in JapanBy Elena Torrijos | SingaporeScene  –  23 minutes ago
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised Singaporeans in the areas affected by the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear plant problems in Japan to move to safer locations.
A spokesman from the MFA said Singaporeans currently in Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures should evacuate the area with immediate effect.
Singaporeans in prefectures neighbouring Fukushima, such as Yamagata, and Niigata, as well as in the Kanto region (Tokyo, Chiba, Kanagawa, Saitama, Gunma, Ibaraki, Tochigi), should consider leaving if they have no pressing reasons to remain there.
The Singapore Embassy in Tokyo has made arrangements for Singaporeans living within the radius of 80 to 100 km from the nuclear power plant to leave for safer locations starting 17 March 2011.
The embassy has been assisting Singaporeans who wish to leave Japan with travel arrangements, immigration or visa-related issues, and in some urgent cases, helped arrange local transportation.
" We are working closely with Singapore Airlines to ensure that there is sufficient capacity for Singaporeans wishing to return to Singapore, including the possibility of mounting extra flights," said the spokesman.
Consular teams in Tokyo are stationed at Narita and Haneda Airports and will render the necessary consular assistance to Singaporeans who decide to return to Singapore, the spokesman added.
Singaporeans wishing to return home or travel to a third country may also wish to consider commercial flights from the Kansai International Airport in Osaka, the Central Japan International Airport in Nagoya, and the Fukuoka International Airport in Fukuoka.
They should closely monitor the situation and follow instructions from their local authorities, the spokesman pointed out.
20 Singaporeans in Sendai, approximately 90km from Fukushima, have indicated to that they wish to stay behind. The Singapore Embassy will continue to stay in touch with them.
" We continue to advise against all non-essential travel to Japan," the MFA spokesman said

I am starting to get worried of Japan's crisis  .  Dump the shares or not?    Anyone's guess and risk appetite.
1st time of such 'LEAKS' of nuclear plant and no one knows whats the world will be liked.  Japan's issue is not like  'PRINTING MONEY' or  Reduce interest rates kind of stuff.
Some expert said Japan might not recover back to its normal state.

I finally see japanese really take the nuclear crisis seriously. They failed to act fast. I really hope countries that own nuclear plant will learn the mistakes  that the japanese made in this crisis.  However now there is hope that this crisis could be contained. I expect some  good news tomorrow :P
Good luck for those who brought today. There might be a relief rally for the  efforts  50 faceless  japanese hero did  :) I respect them. Salute !   |

China’s government plans for renewable energy generation to meet 15% of the country’s growing energy needs by 2020. Renewable energy and energy efficiency look set for a boost as Beijing authorities have now outlined plans to diversify their energy resources in the face of continued price rises, pollution concerns and China’s unquenchable fuel and electricity demands. In its “alternative oil strategy,” which is part of the China’s 2006-2010 Five-Year Plan, Beijing has called for a doubling in renewable energy generation to 15% of the country’s needs by 2020. The target is in line with a new renewable energy law requiring grid operators to purchase resources from renewable energy producers. The law, which came into effect in January, also offers financial incentives to foster renewable energy development, including discounted lending and a range of tax breaks. Of the main renewables, wind power is tipped to have the most potential. Professor Wang Weichang, an energy expert at Tsinghua University in Beijing, predicted wind was on course to supplant hydro as the country’s second-largest electricity source, behind coal. Wang said China has the ability to generate up to 100 gigawatts, or 20% of current national capacity.

REA Group is the only such listed business on the Singapore Exchange currently. REA Group’s JV partner is China Datang Corporation Renewable, China’s largest state-owned power operator. Powered by Government stimulus, China’s wind power capacity has surged from 6 GW in 2007 to 26 GW in 2009. The Chinese Government’s target is 150 GW by 2020.  In addition, wind farms pay no income tax for the first 3 years and 50% of the taxable income in the subsequent two years.
– Renewable Energy Asia Group (亚 洲 新 能 源 集 团 ) has received the go-ahead from the government of Inner Mongolia, for the construction of a 10-megawatt (MW) solar energy farm. The solar energy farm is part of the 285MW Green Energy Park concession in Zhenglanqi, Inner Mongolia, secured by REA Group last May. In addition to the solar energy farm, the Company will develop a 250MW wind farm, and a 25MW bio-fuel plant in the Park in phases. In recent years, China has demonstrated strong commitment in reducing its reliance on environmentally harmful fossil fuels with key laws and regulations. The country is planning to pump in some RMB5 trillion in investments between 2011 and 2020, to promote the development of its renewable energy industries as part of its 12th and 13th Five-Year Plan. |

Japan is surrounded by oceans and if the spread of radiative particles becomes serious (yet to know),  the situation is hard to contain.  No one knows how serious it can be, and lets hope nothing serious is developed from here.

DBS Technical Comment
Dips towards 2880 offer good trading buy opportunity
IF the uncertainty in Japan improves
Investors remain nervous about the still serious
nuclear situation in Japan while the lingering unrest in
Middle East, this time at Bahrain, adds to the cautious
undertone. The STI is likely to give back its 25pt
rebound yesterday. The Nikkei, KOSPI and Australia
indices are currently holding above their Tuesday
lows. For the STI this level is at 2932. We note that
the -1 SD for the STI based on current FY11 and FY12
forecast is about 2880. IF the current nuclear situation
improves, one great uncertainty will be removed and
in this instance, weakness towards this -1 SD level
should provide a good trading opportunity. We’ll have
to see how the situation in Japan pans out.
Good Luck  |

This new is bad for  developers    of   those   New launches coming up:
Mar 17, 2011 - PropertyGuru.com.sg
The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) will be enhancing the Housing Developers Rules (HDR) and the Housing Developers (Control & Licensing) Act (HDCLA) to give more home buyers better access to timely information about the market and units which they are planning to purchase, said Minister for National Development Mah Bow Tan. This means that if the new rules pass, developers must release home prices at least two days before launching the projects. In connection with this, the URA is seeking public feedback on key proposed changes, which also include stricter requirements for project plans and showflats. The URA is putting the proposals up for public consultation and changes could kick in by the third quarter, affecting developers of private residential projects, executive condominiums (ECs) and design, build and sell scheme (DBSS) sites. The key proposed changes which the URA is seeking public feedback on include the setting up of accurate showflats that depict the actual units, making available the price list, providing more mandatory information on housing projects, providing developers’ track record, publishing transacted prices, obtaining buyers’ consent for changes to the project and extending advertising controls on websites. Meanwhile, the URA has stated that a project is considered once the developers grant options-to-purchase (OTPs), regardless of whether sales occur during an official launch or a VIP preview. A URA spokesman said that developers may adjust prices after units have been launched for sale. However, some industry watchers feel that this rule could have a negative impact on developers, as they already have flexibility in pricing units
