(Aug 13, 2008) : Umno Seberang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah is the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership’s choice to take on PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election on Aug 26.

Incidentally, Arif Shah was the Umno Permatang Pauh youth chief in the 90s when Anwar was the division chief and the party’s state chairman.

Immensely popular in his state constituency which he has held since 2004.

In the last general elections, the other two state constituencies of Permatang Pasir and Penanti were won by PAS and PKR respectively, and only incumbent Arif Shah managed to defend his seat in Seberang Jaya.

It is understood that the Umno leadership felt that the BN candidate for Permatang Pauh has to be a local with powerful grassroots appeal, especially among the rural folk, if there is to be any chance of giving Anwar a run for his money.

Meanwhile PAS rejected UMMO offer to form coalition with a mean to it term that stated PAS would agree to work with Ummo if the implementation of strict Islamic laws is accepted, including stoning and cutting of hand for stealing, a pretty criminal and

here PAS form a political alliance with PKR and with DAP (three parties Pakatan Alliance), needless to say..how will it ever work to implement those strict Islamics laws. Is only a married of convenient, if not for power and greed. then what..?.

Tritech braves bear market to launch IPO
JOYCE FANG/THE STRAITS TIMES
A STRUCTURAL engineering firm which has been involved in some of Singapore's major projects is braving choppy market conditions to launch an initial public offering (IPO) here.

Tritech Group, which has been involved in projects such as the Marina Bay integrated resort (top right), two MRT lines and a vast underground petrochemical storage cavern, hopes to raise net proceeds of about $4.4 million.

The company is a niche player specialising in the geotechnical, ground and structural engineering fields.

Tritech, which registered its IPO document with the Singapore Exchange yesterday, is offering 30 million new shares and six million vendor shares at 20 cents apiece. Retail investors will be offered one million shares while the other 35 million will be sold to institutions.

Tritech managing director Jeffery Wang said it was seeking a listing on the Catalist board to expand its business operations and sharpen its competitive edge.

Its 'clear growth plans as well as strong order books will augur well' for the group, he said.

The group's businesses cover industry segments such as oil and gas, infrastructure, residential and commercial markets as well as the integrated resorts.

Its main revenue driver is its specialist engineering services, which contribute 61 per cent of total revenue. It carries out geological-related investigation work, analysis and testing as well as project management services.

The projects it has played a role in include the Marina Bay Financial Centre, the MRT Circle and Downtown Lines and the Jurong Rock Cavern.

Of the net proceeds, about $1.25 million will be used to acquire and upgrade machinery and equipment, $1 million will be used for overseas expansion and $900,000 will be used to commercialise its water treatment technologies.

The remaining $1.25 million will be used for general working capital.

Net profit for the group has grown from $1.5 million in financial year 2006 to $7.3 million this financial year, while revenue increased from $7.4 million to $31.3 million over the same period.

The public offer opens at 10am today and closes at noon next Tuesday. Trading is expected to commence next Thursday

(CNNMoney.com) -- Oil prices tumbled a 3-month low near $115 a barrel Friday as the dollar rallied strongly against slumping foreign currencies.

Light, sweet crude for September delivery settled down $4.82 to $115.20 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It was the lowest close since May 1, when oil finished at $112.52.

With US $ strengthening, oil is falling to $115.20 or $4.82......read this: for more info: http://money.cnn.com/2008/08/08/markets/oil/index.htm?postversion=2008080815

Oil is traded in dollars, and investors had been using it and other commodities to hedge against inflation. But as the dollar began to rebound, investors shifted their money to other investments such as stocks and bonds.

Investor fears about the deterioration in the European economy contributed to the dollar's rebound. Poor economic reports rom the 15-nation euro zone on Friday followed a decision by the European Central Bank a day earlier to hold a key interest rate steady in order to keep cash flowing to the financial industry.

"So much of the buying we saw since last August when oil was trading at $68 a barrel was predicated on a weak dollar," said Peter Beutel, an oil analyst with Cameron Hanover Oil. "As the dollar is gaining now, we're seeing an unwinding of those positions in oil."

"There's no reason why we can't see an unwinding of positions back to the $68 to $79 level," said Beutel. "This market can always go further and faster than anyone will believe."

Oil has fallen more than $32, or nearly 22%, from the record high of $147.27 set July 11

Kepland Vs Capland. Both real support price is <$5.00,. Capland is on a roll coaster ride ,spiking up/down, trying to find it real support since 2008. (Capland..Trade with care). Meanwhile Kepland is seen to have taken a slide toward >$5.00 w/o much hope of finding some real consolidation support, slide seem predictable and constant.
