The US economy is doing much better then Japan and EU.....reported in CNA and US$ is strengthening.

Agree with you.

The official definition of a recession is 2 quarters of negative growth. However, the US has already been suffering from lower exports, lower retail sales, higher unemployment and dropping salaries. These are all signs of recession.

We don't need 2 quarters to tell us what we already know.

Meanwhile(this)...http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/87939...Several delegates at the PAS muktamar have called on the party leadership (how'll it ever work to implement those strict Islamics laws) to reach out to non-Muslims & encourage their participation in the party and this...

http://www.malaysiakini.com/columns/87845  Everywhere in the world, language is a political issue, since time immemorial. But in Malaysia context, the issue of language is, more often than not, a divider rather than a unifier. At times, the situation becomes so tense that it almost escalates into a threat to national security.
Needless to say, the non-Malays often look askance at the attempt by Barisan Nasional to widen the use of Bahasa. At most, probably not against the language per se, but the supremacist agenda behind it.
Meanwhile, the Malays simply don’t seem to understand why the Chinese in this country guard so jealously their right to mother-tongue education.

Language must unite, not divide

More info on Anwar coming election...I'm not here to steal votes, says Hanafi

http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/87917

Permatang Pauh: It's a three-way fight, Little is known about Hanafi Hamat, the third candidate in the high-stakes Permatang Pauh by-election, but the soft spoken Kelantan-based leader of a small Islamic party is not at all fazed by his two heavyweight rivals.

(Aug 13, 2008) : Umno Seberang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah is the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership’s choice to take on PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election on Aug 26.

Incidentally, Arif Shah was the Umno Permatang Pauh youth chief in the 90s when Anwar was the division chief and the party’s state chairman.

Immensely popular in his state constituency which he has held since 2004.

In the last general elections, the other two state constituencies of Permatang Pasir and Penanti were won by PAS and PKR respectively, and only incumbent Arif Shah managed to defend his seat in Seberang Jaya.

It is understood that the Umno leadership felt that the BN candidate for Permatang Pauh has to be a local with powerful grassroots appeal, especially among the rural folk, if there is to be any chance of giving Anwar a run for his money.

Meanwhile PAS rejected UMMO offer to form coalition with a mean to it term that stated PAS would agree to work with Ummo if the implementation of strict Islamic laws is accepted, including stoning and cutting of hand for stealing, a pretty criminal and

here PAS form a political alliance with PKR and with DAP (three parties Pakatan Alliance), needless to say..how will it ever work to implement those strict Islamics laws. Is only a married of convenient, if not for power and greed. then what..?.

After trading up in oil trading price to $117/-....Oil fall again. http://news.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Business/Story/A1Story20080816-82604.html

NEW YORK - WORLD crude oil prices slid again on Friday as the Opec crude producers' cartel lowered its forecast for oil demand growth, citing the weak global economy.

New York's main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for September delivery, closed down US$1.24(S$1.76) at US$113.77 a barrel.

In London, Brent North Sea crude for October delivery dropped US$1.13 to settle at US$112.55 a barrel. The September contract had expired at US$112.64 on Thursday.

'The softening economic situation has led to a further slowdown in oil demand growth', the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) said in its latest monthly forecast on Friday.

Opec, which produces about 40 per cent of the world's oil, revised its global oil demand growth forecast for 2008 down to 1.17 per cent from 1.20 per cent in July.

The cartel also kept its 2009 forecast for oil demand growth unchanged at 1.03 per cent, according Opec's latest report.

2Q08 results: GIL reported a disappointing set of 2Q08 results with core net losses widening from S$8MM in 1H07 to S$23MM in 1H08. The results were dragged down by a weaker-than-expected performance at its UK gaming business. We have reduced our FY08-10 earnings forecasts to an extent where we now expect the group to record net losses in FY08E/09E before turning profitable in FY10E when Resorts World at Sentosa (RWS) opens. We have fine-tuned our GIL valuation and introduce a new Dec-09 PT of S$0.49ct

On profit taking after again hitting +$5/-.......

teeth53 tot: Local property prices can still drop, given those (demand) are not around to pick up just yet, alot will take part to risk buying into it while some will take profit d moment when price move up which is enuff to make them richer by a few thousand $$$. The trick is when demand is low...buy, then sell for whatever price may have move up when demand is high. Profit this day may not be great. Pls note Nov07 slide & now.....
